Puzzling Places Turns Five With Weekly Free Puzzles and a Guest Pass

Puzzling Places, the cozy 3D jigsaw sim from Berlin studio Realities.io, is marking five years with a birthday update that adds a weekly free puzzle rotation, a multiplayer guest pass, and deeper mixed-reality controls. UploadVR detailed the feature set today; the studio’s own birthday blog post confirms the same pillars.

The game turns photogrammetry scans and models of real-world locations into miniature 3D puzzles. It remains available across Meta Quest, Steam, PlayStation VR2, Pico, and Apple Vision Pro.

Weekly free puzzles (Quest first)

The new weekly puzzle draws from the paid add-on catalog on a rotating schedule. Play starts on the 25-piece difficulty only. Finish that challenge and the 50-piece version unlocks for the following week. Completing each weekly puzzle across five consecutive weeks unlocks the 400-piece variant plus a bonus puzzle.

Miss a week and you get a mulligan: the streak can continue the next week rather than resetting permanently. Puzzles refresh every Friday night at midnight UTC. Per UploadVR, the program is Quest-only for now because Realities.io cannot currently unlock DLC content for free on Steam.

Guest pass for multiplayer

Multiplayer sessions now follow a Walkabout Mini Golf–style guest pass model: only the host needs to own the puzzle content. Guests can join the room, download, and play for free. The studio notes guests can join but cannot host. Like the weekly rotation, guest pass is Quest-only for now.

Passthrough portal and MR boot

A passthrough portal slider lets players blend the virtual puzzle environment with their physical room to taste. That control ships on Quest, Pico, and Steam Frame. On Quest specifically, the game now boots into mixed reality instead of black loading screens, so MR can stay on from start to finish when the headset preference allows it.

Across platforms, a news carousel surfaces announcements, new packs, and store offers inside the game.

What it means at five years

Five years in, Realities.io is leaning into retention loops (weekly free content), frictionless co-op (guest pass), and comfort-oriented MR rather than a new hardware exclusive. The hard caveats for buyers are platform scope: the two biggest social features are Quest-first, while passthrough fade reaches Pico and Steam Frame as well.

Puzzling Places is live on the Meta Quest Store, Steam, PlayStation VR2, Pico, and Apple Vision Pro. Monthly Pack #47 ships alongside the birthday update for $4.99 on supported storefronts.
