Sony’s online-only PlayStation VR2 shooter dies on September 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. No offline mode. No patch. Eleven days left.
Firewall Ultra is running out of calendar. Per an update Sony added in March 2026 to its original August 2023 PlayStation Blog launch post, online features terminate on September 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Because the title requires an online connection to play, Sony’s own wording is absolute: after that timestamp, the game “will no longer be playable.”

What Sony actually said
The notice is not a new press release. It is a March 2026 edit bolted onto a three-year-old blog post, with dead embeds and outdated roadmap language still sitting above it. Delisted Games flagged the awkward delivery in March: the game had already been pulled from the PlayStation Store, developer First Contact Entertainment was long gone, and the only formal shutdown text lived inside that 2023 article.
The PlayStation Store concept page for Firewall Ultra repeats the same cutoff. PS Plus is required for online play. Online play is required to use the title. When the servers stop, owners do not keep a single-player shell. They keep a library entry that will not launch into a playable state.

Three years, then silence
Firewall Ultra launched in August 2023 as the spiritual follow-up to Firewall Zero Hour on the original PlayStation VR. Reviews were middling—Metacritic settled around 61/100, with critics citing controls, progression, and limited variety, as Road to VR summarized when the shutdown notice first appeared. Four months after launch, First Contact Entertainment shut down. Support became Sony’s problem. A 2025 incentive tweak read less like a revival than a last attempt to refill lobbies.
The predecessor, Zero Hour on PS4, remains available for now—an ironic footnote Delisted Games noted when Ultra’s store page vanished. The sequel with the bigger headset and the Sense controllers is the one scheduled to vanish from playability entirely.
Why the date matters now
September 17 is eleven days from this writing. It sits in a crowded VR week that also includes CONVRGENCE 1.0 and CleanSheet Soccer 2 on Quest, but those are launches. Firewall Ultra is a deletion. Online-only VR shooters without an offline fallback do not age into archives; they hit a calendar and stop.
For remaining players, the action is simple and finite: finish whatever matches, ranks, or nostalgia runs are still possible before 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 17. There is no announced offline patch, no local skirmish mode, and no promise that screenshots or trophy lists will feel like compensation. After that hour, Firewall Ultra is history with a hard stop—not a soft delisting.
