visionOS 27.2 Beta 4 Repeats Beta 3’s Notes Word for Word, and Xcode 27.2 Beta 3 Warns of a Vision Pro Simulator Crash

Apple SEEDED visionOS 27.2 beta 4 to developers on TUESDAY, build 24N5114a, and the RELEASE NOTES that came with it are a WORD-FOR-WORD repeat of BETA 3. Apple’s developer releases RSS feed timestamps the build at 10:00 a.m. PT on October 13. A day later, at 10:00 a.m. PT on WEDNESDAY, Apple posted Xcode 27.2 beta 3 (27B5038j), the TOOLCHAIN that CARRIES the visionOS 27.2 SDK, and THAT document is where the Vision Pro-specific news ACTUALLY sits.

Beta 4’s Notes Are Beta 3’s Notes

The visionOS 27.2 beta 4 release notes contain the SAME FOUR entries, under the SAME bug numbers, that Metaverse Watcher reported for beta 3 on October 5. There is NO NEW entry, and NOTHING has moved from known to resolved.

  • Quick Look, still OPEN: “3D objects opened from Safari might reposition unexpectedly when you move them.” (187035825). Apple STILL offers NO WORKAROUND.
  • StoreKit Testing in Xcode, listed as fixed: intro offer eligibility resetting after SKTestSession.clearTransactions() (183933307), storefront and locale changes propagating through Storefront.updates (184155259), and error dialogs appearing despite dialogsDisabled (184255116).
  • StoreKit, still OPEN: an in-app purchase of a subscription that belongs to a subscription bundle can let the user unbundle instead of throwing an error (186018916).

For WEB developers, the practical reading is BLUNT: the Safari-to-Quick Look DRIFT that surfaced in beta 3 has now SURVIVED a SECOND seed. ANY retailer or museum serving USDZ models to Vision Pro visitors should keep TESTING grab-and-move behaviour on 24N5114a rather than ASSUME a fix is landing QUIETLY. Apple does NOT say WHEN, or WHETHER, 187035825 will close before release.

Where the Vision Pro Detail Moved: Xcode 27.2 Beta 3

Beta 3 of Xcode 27.2 succeeds beta 2 (27B5028f), which was STILL the NEWEST Xcode 27.2 build when visionOS 27.2 beta 3 arrived on October 5. The Xcode 27.2 beta 3 release notes say it includes Swift 6.4 and SDKs for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, macOS and visionOS 27.2, and that it REQUIRES a Mac running macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. At the top of the document, above the sections Apple labels as beta 2 and beta 1 updates, TWO known issues name visionOS DIRECTLY:

  • Device Hub CRASH: “Selecting a Vision Pro Simulator in Device Hub may cause Device Hub to quit unexpectedly if a visionOS runtime is not available.” (188313956). Apple’s workaround is to INSTALL the corresponding visionOS runtime from within Xcode, or DELETE the simulator device.
  • Deployment target MISREPORT: “macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS SDKs in Xcode 27.2 incorrectly report 27.1 as a valid deployment target,” and builds “may have unexpected behavior” if that target is used (187160501).

A THIRD entry applies to EVERY platform’s simulators, Vision Pro included: cloning a simulator device running runtime 27.2 “might fail due to incorrect file permissions” (188407822, FB24939277). Apple publishes a find command that deletes the offending temporary files as a WORKAROUND.

NEITHER problem is EXOTIC. A studio that keeps a Vision Pro Simulator in its device list but has not yet DOWNLOADED the 27.2 runtime is EXACTLY the setup that HITS the Device Hub crash. The deployment-target bug matters MORE for SHIPPING: a visionOS app built against the 27.2 SDK with 27.1 selected as its minimum may behave UNPREDICTABLY, and Apple does NOT describe the SYMPTOMS. Until Apple marks 187160501 FIXED, the SAFER choice is to avoid that target on this toolchain.

The Cadence, and What Is Still Missing

The GAP between beta 3 and beta 4 was EIGHT days, SHORTER than the 14 days between betas 2 and 3 but LONGER than the FIVE days between betas 1 and 2. AppleInsider lists the FULL Tuesday wave: iOS and iPadOS 27.2 beta 4 (24B5110a), macOS 27.2 beta 4 (26B5112a), watchOS 27.2 beta 4 (24S5112a) and visionOS 27.2 beta 4 (24N5114a). MacRumors noted there was NO tvOS 27.2 beta 4, and Apple’s developer releases page lists tvOS 27.2 beta 3, dated October 5, with no beta 4. MacRumors also wrote that there is “no word on what’s being added in visionOS 27.2.”

That remains the CENTRAL gap. FOUR betas in, Apple has listed NO NEW user-facing Vision Pro FEATURE for 27.2 in ANY of its notes. According to the Beta Profiles IPSW listing, which draws on AppleDB, beta 4 is signed for both the M5 Vision Pro (RealityDevice17,1) and the original model (RealityDevice14,1), at roughly 12.9 GB per restore image. The newest PUBLIC visionOS build listed on Apple’s developer releases page is STILL visionOS 27.0.1 (24M372), dated September 28, and Apple has given NO RELEASE DATE for 27.2.

The ADVICE therefore HOLDS from beta 3. Keep the BETA OFF any headset you DEPEND on. If your site serves 3D models through Safari, RETEST on 24N5114a. If you BUILD visionOS apps, MOVE to Xcode 27.2 beta 3, INSTALL the visionOS 27.2 runtime before opening Device Hub, and do NOT target 27.1 from this SDK until Apple says the misreport is FIXED.
