Golf+ Immersive Putting Puts a Real Putter on Quest 3 Mixed Reality

Golf+ just put a real putter and a real ball into Quest mixed reality. Immersive Putting maps a virtual green onto your room via Quest 3 / 3S passthrough, reads the stroke with the headset cameras, and rolls the shot onto greens with simulated break, grain, and speed — no launch monitor and no PC. UploadVR covered the feature today; Golf+’s own putting page says the beta is live in-app now, with a fuller launch still framed for September.

The pitch is blunt: controllers are out of the short-game loop. You stroke an actual ball with your own putter in a few feet of clear, well-lit space. The headset’s passthrough and depth sensing place the green in the room; camera tracking captures start line, speed, and trajectory, then the physics engine continues the putt on the virtual surface. Feedback covers start line, pace, result, proximity to the hole, and trends across strokes so practice sessions can show patterns rather than one-off misses.

Pass-gated, Quest 3 / 3S only

Immersive Putting is not a free base-game unlock. Per UploadVR and Golf+’s store copy, it sits behind Golf+ Pass$49.99 for the first year of an annual plan, then $99.99 per year, with a 7-day trial started inside the app (not on the web store). Pass also opens the full championship course library and tournaments. The base Golf+ app still sells on Quest for $29.99 with three original courses, and it remains in the Horizon+ catalog.

Hardware is the other gate. The feature is live for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S only. Quest 2 lacks the passthrough and depth stack the mode depends on. Golf+’s putting FAQ is explicit: a Quest 3 or 3S, the Golf+ app, your putter, a ball, and enough room to stand and stroke — no launch monitor, stickers, or external PC. Official pages also say you can dial distance, break, speed, and slope, including greens modeled on venues such as St Andrews, Pebble Beach, and TPC Sawgrass, plus drills and putt-putt modes once Pass is active.

Why the timing matters

Home golf sims have long treated putting as the weak link — flat mats, guesswork green grids, or expensive add-on trackers. Golf+ is betting the Quest’s onboard cameras are enough for the short game, and that a subscription that already unlocks 40+ VR courses can carry MR practice without another hardware box. Steam still lists the PC build as coming soon; Immersive Putting, as described today, is a Quest-first story.

If you already subscribe, the path is short: open Golf+ on Quest 3 or 3S, head to the putting green, and bring a real putter. Everyone else is looking at Pass pricing plus a clear floor and a few feet of roll-out space before the feature is more than a trailer.
