Snap’s SPECS launch event lands Wednesday, September 16 in Los Angeles. Evan Spiegel takes the stage at 4:00 p.m. PT. The $2,195 glasses still lack a firm ship day.
Snap’s July 30 newsroom post fixed the date: Wednesday, September 16, Los Angeles, livestream at specs.com/launch at 4:00 p.m. Pacific. Co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel will give what Snap calls the first in-depth look at SPECS — AI assistance, work tools, entertainment, and shared experiences — with developers and creators among the first outside hands on the shipping hardware.

What is already locked
The consumer reveal happened at AWE on June 16. TechCrunch and Snap’s own materials put the price at $2,195, with a $200 refundable deposit for preorders. Shipping is listed as this fall in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. Hardware is fully standalone: two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors on-frame, no puck, no tether. TechCrunch clocked two sizes — 47 mm at 132 g and 52 mm at 136 g — a 51-degree field of view, up to four hours of mixed use, and a case that extends total runtime toward 20 hours.
Software is the quieter advantage. Lens Studio has been public since 2017, and fifth-generation developer Specs have been in builders’ hands since 2024. September 16 is less about inventing a toolchain and more about proving the consumer frame, day-one Lenses, and battery behavior outside a booth.

What September 16 still has to answer
VR.org’s calendar read is blunt: the event, venue, livestream, price, and fall window are set. The missing line is a ship date, not another seasonal hedge. A mid-September stage leaves little room for “fall” to mean anything other than a calendar day spoken on stage — or a deposit that stays refundable for a reason.
Price pressure arrives the same season. XREAL capped AURA reservations at $1,500 for a tethered Android XR fall launch. SPECS is standalone true AR with on-device compute; AURA is a display-plus-puck product. That distinction matters on a spec sheet. At checkout it is a roughly $700 gap Snap has one keynote to make legible to buyers who are not category obsessives.
The fall AR calendar just got denser
September was already crowded. Meta Connect lands September 23–24. Steam Frame still sits inside Valve’s summer 2026 window that ends September 22. Google and Samsung keep eyewear timelines at the season level. By locking September 16 first, Snap forces larger rivals to announce before it, respond after it, or cede a news week — inexpensive leverage for a company a fraction of their size.
For anyone holding a $200 deposit, the decision stops being hypothetical in four days. Watch for a ship date, the Lens lineup installed on day one, and hands-on notes from people who do not work at Snap. If those match the keynote, the most expensive glasses of the fall will at least be the most finished. If they do not, the refund button remains the product’s most honest feature.
