UploadVR’s Craig Storm has been working out in a headset almost daily for years. His September 21 kit list is blunt: knuckle GRIPS, a rear-battery STRAP, a SWEATBAND, and a room FAN fix more Quest FITNESS pain than another software UPDATE.
UploadVR published the GUIDE today. It is not a product launch — it is a HARDWARE scorecard from someone who treats Beat Saber-class sessions as TRAINING, not demos. Sitting down in VR hides FRONT-heavy BALANCE, SWEAT, and controller SLIP. Moving hard for thirty minutes does not.

Knuckle Grips First
Storm ranks knuckle grips as the most CRITICAL accessory after the headset itself. Stock Quest wrist TETHERS stop a controller from flying across the room, but they still demand a CLOSED grip. Knuckle straps let hands OPEN for dance, flow, stretching, or Tai Chi-like motion while the controllers STAY put — and textured rubber helps when palms get sweaty.
His long-term pick is the Kiwi Design G4 Pro. BoboVR, Best Buy’s Insignia, and others sell rivals; Storm says the Kiwi set is what survived YEARS of workouts. That is a USE claim, not a lab BENCHMARK.

Prescription Inserts Beat Glasses
If you need CORRECTIVE lenses, Storm calls prescription INSERTS mandatory for fitness. Glasses SHIFT, PRESS, and can scrape headset OPTICS when you duck and weave. Zenni’s Meta-partnered snap-in inserts are his daily DRIVER; magnetic third-party options exist. A side benefit he did not buy for: the insert LAYER shields the Quest’s own lenses while you wipe SWEAT.
Rear Battery for Balance, Not Just Runtime
Quest hardware piles silicon and battery at the FRONT. Storm notices that WEIGHT most when he is ducking and weaving, not when he is seated. He previously used a Kiwi elite-style battery strap; for about a year he has run the BoboVR S3 Pro halo strap. Elite clamps the face harder; halo shifts LOAD to the forehead and crown. Neither wins universally — head shape decides.
What he will recommend without hedging: a strap with a rear-mounted BATTERY. Extra watt-hour CAPACITY helps, but COUNTERBALANCE is the real story. The full kit weighs more than stock and feels BETTER. BoboVR’s hot-swappable packs let him SNAP a charged cell mid-session — playtime stops being the LIMIT as long as a SPARE is ready.

Fans, Sweatbands, Wipeable Faces
A room FAN aimed at the play space is Storm’s least glamorous tip and one of the most EFFECTIVE. The S3 Pro’s built-in forehead fan helps; it does not REPLACE moving air across the body. Directional breeze can even cue which way you FACE without leaving immersion — a physical reference, not a safety substitute for a BOUNDARY.
A basic SWEATBAND keeps moisture out of the eyes and off the headset. After hard sessions, Storm swaps the stock fabric facial interface for synthetic LEATHER — Kiwi V3 (fixed) or BoboVR F3 (adjustable) — so sweat wipes CLEAN instead of soaking into foam. Baby wipes for plastics; microfiber only for lenses.
A Mat Keeps You Centered
Half an hour of punches and lateral steps can walk you off your starting mark without any in-headset warning. Storm uses a ProxiMat 42-inch Classic (bought via Supernatural’s former store, made by ProxiMat) with tactile CENTER and direction markers underfoot. Pair it with a STATIONARY Quest boundary. The mat does not REPLACE guardian space; it gives feet a REFERENCE the virtual world cannot.

Buy Problems, Not a Bundle
Storm’s closer matters for readers who just bought a Quest 3 or 3S. Do not empty the accessory aisle on day one. A sweatband costs a few DOLLARS. Most homes already own a FAN. Spend up when a PAIN shows up every WORKOUT — grips for SLIP, a battery STRAP for front-heavy ache, INSERTS if glasses fight the face seal. His RULE: if an accessory solves a PROBLEM so well you STOP noticing it, it earned the SLOT.
Meta Connect opens Wednesday with Phoenix WEIGHT rumors and glasses PRIVACY theater. Storm’s list is the quieter COUNTERPOINT: the install base already sweating in Quest hardware still needs rubber, LEATHER, and AIR more than another KEYNOTE slide.
