Steam Frame SteamOS 0.4.3 Beta Adds Up to 12% Battery Life

Valve just PUSHED another SteamOS build for Steam Frame, and the HEADLINE is the one owners have been WAITING for: better BATTERY life. SteamOS 0.4.3 (Beta) claims improved power EFFICIENCY and battery lifetime during BOTH streaming and local gameplay, with gains of up to 12% — results VARY by framerate and content.

According to Valve’s own Steam Frame news post for 0.4.3, the update is on the Steam Frame BETA channel. Owners opt in under Settings → System → System Update Channel. PC Gamer (Jacob Ridley, October 2, 2026) and PC Guide both reproduced the same PATCH NOTES the same day.

What “up to 12%” actually means

Valve’s wording is CAREFUL: gains of up to 12%, not a guaranteed FLOOR. PC Gamer’s arithmetic is the USEFUL one for streamers — if a Frame runs about TWO HOURS while STREAMING, a full 12% bump is roughly another fifteen MINUTES. Local VR titles will see different RETURNS depending on refresh rate and how HARD the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is working.

That matters because LAUNCH reviews repeatedly pegged practical RUNTIME around one to two hours, with DEMANDING standalone sessions dipping under an hour. A software-only bump will not turn Frame into an all-day headset, but it is one of the FEW battery LEVERS Valve can pull without a new strap pack.

Accessibility, Error 17, and wireless fixes

Battery is not the ONLY change. Valve ADDED an accessibility toggle to limit eye tracking to a SINGLE eye — VR Settings → General → Track Dominant Eye Only (advanced settings must be on). The build also FIXES controller bindings that failed to load for certain games, including Google Earth VR and Thumper, and improves focus behavior on grab and resize HANDLES.

Streaming reliability gets another PASS, including more fixes for Error 17. Valve notes that the PC side must opt into SteamVR 2.18.2 or later (beta branch at the time of the post) to reduce those CONNECTION issues. A separate FIX targets Steam Frame wireless adapter connectivity problems that affected users in SOME countries.

How to get it

Switch the headset to the BETA update channel, install 0.4.3, and — if you stream from a PC — pair it with SteamVR 2.18.2+. Metaverse Watcher will treat “up to 12%” as a MAXIMUM until independent RUNTIME measurements land; for now the source of truth is Valve’s CHANGELOG plus the October 2 reporting from PC Gamer and PC Guide.
