Meta Confirms 3D Movie Streaming for Quest and VR Glasses This Fall

The Verge (Sean Hollister, October 3, 2026) reports a concrete ENTERTAINMENT timeline from Meta: 3D MOVIES are coming to Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, and the upcoming Meta VR Glasses — not only as a spring-2027 glasses DEMO, but as STREAMING inside major apps later this FALL.

Meta director of entertainment Sarah Malkin confirmed to The Verge that subscribers will be able to watch 3D titles in the Disney Plus, HBO, Paramount Plus, and Peacock apps on those headsets, with some of that STARTING later this fall. That is the piece Metaverse Watcher readers needed after Connect: device NAMES attached to the catalogue, not just a KEYNOTE slide.

What Meta is promising — and when

By the time Meta VR Glasses launch in SPRING 2027 at $1,299.99, Malkin says there will be “hundreds of 3D films” available to RENT or BUY through Meta’s TV app, plus some free 3D content. Pricing, she told The Verge, should stay in LINE with typical 2D Ultra High Definition films — not a premium surcharge for DEPTH.

She also addressed RUNTIME: Meta’s three-hour battery-life quote for VR Glasses should COVER a full 3D movie watched in Theater mode if the device starts FULLY charged. That is a PRACTICAL claim for a cinema-first form factor, and it is MORE SPECIFIC than most Connect talking points.

Quest gets the catalog before glasses ship

The strategic point Hollister underlines is DISTRIBUTION. Apple Vision Pro launched in 2024 with what The Verge still calls the BEST next-gen 3D movie path — 4K, HDR, spatial audio, free 3D upgrades for many purchased 2D titles, and a large Disney Plus 3D catalogue. Meta’s confirmation means you will no longer NEED a $3,500 Apple headset to stream that CLASS of 3D film: a $350 Quest 3S or $600 Quest 3 is on the PATH, alongside the $1,300 glasses.

Connect-week reporting already sketched the WIDER library. Deadline (September 23) and Mixed-News (September 24) tracked Disney Plus Marvel titles such as The Avengers and Black Panther arriving in 3D in NOVEMBER in select countries, plus Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+ opening 3D catalogues for the FIRST time. The Verge interview is the UPDATE that ties those deals to Quest HARDWARE this fall, not only to VR Glasses next spring.

Why this matters for XR media

Physical 3D Blu-rays remain STUCK at 1080p without HDR, and 4K Blu-ray never carried 3D. STREAMING is the only SCALE path left. If Meta ships even a FRACTION of “hundreds” of rentable 3D titles at UHD-comparable prices on Quest before glasses land, that is a MASS-MARKET 3D window Apple alone has not OPENED. Watch the FALL app updates — Disney Plus, HBO, Paramount Plus, Peacock — for the first LIVE titles, then the Meta TV storefront for the rental SHELF that Malkin said should be DEEP by SPRING.
