Steam Frame Verified Passes 200 Games, but Only 70 Are VR-Only

Steam Frame’s STANDALONE library has crossed a round NUMBER. GamingOnLinux reported on October 6 that MORE than 200 games now carry the Steam Frame VERIFIED badge, and that 70 of them are VR-only titles. The rest are FLAT games that Valve has tested to run WELL directly on the headset.

From 143 to 200-Plus in About Three Weeks

The last hard count we covered came from MIXED on September 18, four days after launch. Steam’s store filters then returned 143 Verified titles, and only 63 of those carried the VR tag. Valve’s launch promise had been “over 100” games with the badge.

Read side by side, the two snapshots suggest the Verified shelf GREW by at least 57 titles, roughly 40 PERCENT, while the VR portion moved from 63 to 70. That points to FLATSCREEN games doing most of the GROWTH. One CAVEAT matters: MIXED counted titles with Steam’s VR tag, while GamingOnLinux describes its 70 as VR-only. The two METHODS may not match exactly, so treat the VR comparison as DIRECTIONAL, not precise.

Which VR Games Made the List

GamingOnLinux highlights a set of WELL-REVIEWED VR staples that are now Verified for standalone play: Beat Saber, UNDERDOGS, Moss, Ancient Dungeon, Pistol Whip, The Last Clockwinder, and Synth Riders. Each sits at 92 PERCENT positive or higher on Steam. Most are familiar QUEST titles, which fits the pattern MIXED saw at launch, when the VR side leaned heavily on games that already run on mobile chipsets.

What the Badge Does and Does Not Cover

The badge is a LOCAL-play rating. As GamingOnLinux notes, it does NOT account for games that work when STREAMED from a PC to the headset, which Valve positions as the Frame’s main mode. Valve’s documentation, cited in our September coverage, says a rating “will not affect whether your game is AVAILABLE to customers on Frame.” A missing badge means a title has not finished REVIEW, not that it FAILED.

That distinction is already drawing FEEDBACK. One GamingOnLinux reader asked Valve to split the rating into four categories covering on-device and streaming play for both VR and flat games. Another replied that a streaming rating is not PRACTICAL, since streamed performance depends ENTIRELY on the owner’s PC.

Why It Matters

For a $1,059 headset, 70 standalone VR games is a MEANINGFUL step but still a SMALL fraction of Steam’s VR catalog. The more useful SIGNAL is pace: the Verified list has added titles STEADILY since launch, and individual studios, including Schell Games with I Expect You to Die 2 and 3, are now announcing badges on their own. Buyers who want to play AWAY from a PC should check the Great on Frame hub before they assume a FAVORITE runs untethered.
