Squingle Arcade Adds a $19.99 ‘Limitless’ Energy Unlock on Quest, the Same Price as the Original Squingle, Plus 20 Free Liquid Levels

Squingle Arcade, the FREE-TO-PLAY sequel to one of VR’s BEST-LOVED puzzle games, now SELLS a way out of its own Energy meter. An October 15 update from publisher VRAL Games adds a NEW Liquid Realm with 20 FREE levels, a paid Liquid Campaign with 20 MORE, and an optional one-time purchase called Limitless that grants INFINITE Energy across the WHOLE game. On the Meta Horizon Store, Limitless is listed at $19.99, which is EXACTLY what the original 2021 Squingle still costs on Steam.

What the update adds

VRAL Games’ patch notes describe THREE pieces. The headline is the Liquid Realm, where “sections of the maze now float free in space, and the only way to reach them is to ride the Spheres.” Players have to WATCH where each Sphere spawns, read its PATH and TIME the ride. TWENTY Liquid levels sit inside the FREE main campaign.

  • Liquid Realm (free): 20 levels added to the main campaign at NO cost.
  • Liquid Campaign DLC (paid): 20 MORE Liquid levels in a dedicated campaign launched from the main menu. The Quest listing, titled “Liquid – 20 Levels + Exclusive Cosmetics – DLC Pack,” is priced at $4.99 and also bundles COSMETICS.
  • Limitless (paid): a one-time purchase for INFINITE Energy. “Look for the ∞ symbol,” the notes say, and “Squingle Arcade stays free to play.”

BOTH add-ons went LIVE on Quest on October 15 and list support for Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S. On Steam, the store page now CARRIES an “OPTIONAL: GO LIMITLESS” section and an In-App Purchases flag, but as of this WRITING it shows NO price for either purchase.

The price is the story

Squingle Arcade reached SteamVR on September 9 after launching on Quest in July, both times as a FREE download. The original Squingle took the OPPOSITE route: a single paid purchase that has sat at $19.99 on Steam since July 14, 2021. Both games come from the SAME two names, developer Ben Outram (listed on Quest as Dr. Benjamin Outram) and publisher VRAL Games, so this is a change of BUSINESS MODEL rather than a change of studio.

Limitless effectively puts the OLD PREMIUM price back on the table, now as an OPT-IN. The Quest description is BLUNT about the pitch: “buy once, play forever, for players who would rather own their experience than manage a meter.” That framing is HONEST, but it also tells you the free tier is built AROUND a meter in the FIRST place.

What VRAL Games has not said

NONE of the official copy explains how Energy WORKS: how MUCH a player starts with, what each ATTEMPT costs, or how fast it REFILLS. The Steam page says only that Limitless means “No waiting between attempts, no counting lives.” The studio’s own post on X calls the purchase a DLC so “you never run out of lives,” which SUGGESTS failed runs are what drain the meter. Without refill NUMBERS, buyers CANNOT judge whether $19.99 removes a MINOR annoyance or a HARD wall.

The store copy also still DISAGREES with itself on size. Steam’s short description promises “60+ morphing 3D mazes,” while the feature list a few lines down claims “100+ Mind-Bending Levels.” Adding 20 free Liquid levels does not settle WHICH number is current. Public feedback is THIN, too: Steam shows just TWO user reviews, both POSITIVE, which is not enough for the store to generate a score.

Why it matters

Small VR studios are under REAL pressure to find REVENUE beyond a one-time sale, and free-to-play with a paid unlock is one of the FEW models that SCALES on Quest. Squingle Arcade is a CLEAN test case, because the same developer already SOLD the same CORE idea for a flat $19.99. If Limitless SELLS, expect more premium VR puzzle and arcade titles to RELAUNCH as free sequels with an energy cap and a buy-out. If it does not, the Liquid Realm’s free levels at least give LAPSED players a reason to come BACK.
