VMX Ships on Quest With Gesture-Based BMX and Planned Steam Cross-Play

Break Free Interactive’s VR riding game VMX is LIVE on the Meta Horizon Store as of October 2, 2026 — putting GESTURE-based BMX, mountain bike, and scooter sessions on Quest 2 and Quest 3 after months of Steam Early Access. The Meta listing prices the standalone build at $14.99. Cross-play with Steam is the studio’s PLAN, not a confirmed day-one FEATURE.

The October 2 Quest window was locked in a September 17 Games Press release and tracked on Metaverse Watcher earlier as a calendar HOLD. Today the product is on the Meta Horizon Store, rated 3+ with a “Users Interact” notice under Sport and Simulation. Mixed-News read the listing’s unlock as 10:00 PDT. For players who only BUY on Quest, this is the first time the full SESSION loop — parks, challenges, workshop paint, and multiplayer LOBBIES — SHIPS without a PC bridge.

Gesture Tricks, Five Maps, Two Comfort Modes

VMX’s pitch is PHYSICALITY. Tricks are meant to be performed as body GESTURES rather than stick combos, on a handling system the studio built itself. Vehicles cover BMX, mountain bike, and scooters. Five MAPS ship in the Steam Early Access build that continues alongside Quest: an underground skatepark, a desert dirt track, Miami streets, a docks warehouse, and a stadium with a MEGARAMP and animated crowd. Modes include time ATTACK, a Simon Says-style CHALLENGE, and an open SANDBOX. Comfort Mode is the DEFAULT for reduced motion stress; Immersive Mode is aimed at EXPERIENCED VR riders who want harder PHYSICAL feedback.

The Workshop is where riders CUSTOMIZE paint and GEAR. A spray-can system blends colors and gradients on the bike; points earned in PLAY unlock helmets, goggles, snapbacks, and beanie options. That loop matters for a MULTIPLAYER sports title: cosmetic PROGRESS is how lobbies stay STICKY when the PHYSICS curve is STEEP.

Steam Stays Early Access; Cross-Play Is a Commitment

PC VR players should not treat October 2 as a “1.0” EXIT. Steam Early Access began March 26, 2026, and Mixed-News notes the studio’s own ROADMAP still puts a full RELEASE one to two YEARS out. A live Steam API read on October 2 shows a Very Positive score — 217 positive against 26 negative across 243 REVIEWS — with the US price at $14.99 before a 20% Autumn SALE cut to $11.99. Valve lists the title as VR only with single-player, online PvP, and online co-op.

Cross-play is the strategic REASON Quest matters. On July 31 Break Free Interactive wrote that Meta cross-play “will bring in so many more PLAYERS,” and that even riders who stay on Steam would see livelier LOBBIES. The studio has not said what shape shared sessions take on LAUNCH day, so Quest buyers should treat linked lobbies as a TARGET rather than a guaranteed day-one SWITCH. Until that lands, each STORE is its own player POOL.

Why the Quest Shelf Matters Today

UploadVR’s October 2026 release calendar puts VMX at the front of a crowded FALL slate that also includes Pedal Rebel VR on October 5 and a cluster of Quest titles on October 8 and 15. A gesture-first sports GAME is a different BET from flat ports: it needs enough concurrent RIDERS for multiplayer to FEEL alive. Expanding from Steam Early Access into the Horizon STORE is how Break Free Interactive tries to GROW that pool without waiting for a full 1.0 build.

Bottom line for the metaverse and XR beat: VMX is no longer a DATE on a press release — it is a PURCHASABLE Quest title as of October 2, 2026, at $14.99 on Meta, while Steam Early Access CONTINUES with a Very Positive review LEDGER and an Autumn SALE price CUT. Treat cross-play as a PROMISE in progress, Comfort Mode as the smart DEFAULT, and the five-map set as the playground you can SESSION TODAY.
