XREAL AURA got its first major European hands-on at IFA 2026 this week, and the takeaway from TechRadar’s booth time is blunt: the glasses are trying to be what Samsung’s Galaxy XR does, in a form factor closer to XREAL’s existing One Pro specs. Fall 2026 is still the ship window. The base price ceiling is still $1,500. Exact day and street price are still missing.
That is a different beat from the June reservation rush we already covered—when Founder Passes sold out and the public queue crossed 10,000 deposits. IFA is the first crowded show floor where reviewers could wear the finished optical stack next to RayNeo, VITURE, Even Realities, and ELO’s Sentinel XR in the same hall.
What the IFA hands-on actually checked
Per TechRadar’s Hamish Hector at IFA, AURA pairs see-through 2K-class micro-OLED panels with a claimed 70° field of view, Bose-tuned speakers, a mic, and cameras for hand tracking plus Google’s Circle to Search. The pitch is Android XR in glasses weight: Play Store apps, giant virtual screens, Gemini across the stack, Docs if you want to work. That is the same platform language Samsung’s Galaxy XR already ships on a bulkier headset.
Hector’s comparison is deliberate. One Pro remains the display-glasses reference for many reviewers; Galaxy XR is the Android XR reference. AURA is the hybrid: glasses silhouette, headset OS, compute parked in a puck.
Split compute, not a phone dongle
UploadVR and Road to VR have the architecture straight from XREAL’s launch materials: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite in the compute puck runs Android XR; XREAL’s X1S spatial coprocessor stays in the glasses for low-latency display and sensor work. GSMArena lists Sony Micro-OLED at 1920×1200 per eye, 120 Hz, electrochromic dimming, 6DoF, and two puck configs (12/256 GB and 16/512 GB) with a 4,455 mAh battery in the puck. Face-tracked Likeness avatars from Galaxy XR are called out as a miss—AURA has no face tracking.
XREAL’s own product page repeats the fall 2026 window, the Reality Elite + X1S split, 70° optical see-through FOV, Bose EQ, and Gemini on Android XR. Reservations remain open with a $99 deposit path in wave-1 markets.
Price ceiling, still not a price
Road to VR quotes XREAL’s reservation fine print: the base model “will not exceed US$1,500, excluding applicable taxes,” with wave-1 markets including the US, UK, Japan, Canada, South Korea, and selected EU countries. That is a ceiling, not an MSRP. Galaxy XR launched at $1,799. Snap SPECS locked a higher proprietary price earlier this month. Until XREAL posts a real number, $1,500 is a marketing guardrail, not a checkout total.
IFA does not change the calendar math. Fall still means September through November. Meta Connect is September 23–24. Steam Frame’s summer window closes September 22. AURA’s European booth presence this week is useful product texture—not a ship date.
What to watch
For buyers already in the reservation queue, the next useful artifacts are an exact MSRP, a day, and a clear list of which Galaxy XR / Android XR apps actually land on day one without face tracking. For everyone else, IFA’s hands-on confirms the category bet: Android XR does not have to live only in a face computer the size of a Quest. XREAL is betting glasses plus a puck can carry the same OS. The show floor liked the weight. The store page still owes the number.
