Public OpenSim grids came back from summer with more land and more people. Hypergrid Business’ September 15 tally puts total land area at 163,960 standard region equivalents — up 10,223 in a single month, the largest jump since November 2024 — while registered users rose by 7,251 to 459,533 and active users climbed by 881.
Wolf Territories Grid alone accounts for most of the land surge — Hypergrid’s grid table shows it adding 10,098 regions month over month, and it leads the active-user ranking at 13,381. OSgrid (3,907), Groovy Verse (3,639), and GBG World (2,622) round out the top four by actives among the 231 grids that published stats. Six grids were added to the database; fourteen were marked suspended pending a return.
The commerce layer moved with traffic. Kitely Market listings and exportable variations both rose versus August, with deliveries now spanning 694 grids. BloodMoon opened a free-listing marketplace aimed at sharing creations at 0 BM$, and GBG World split a hypergrid-capable market from a simpler local inventory market after residents struggled with Marketplace Boxes.
Calendar watch: OSgrid’s annual fundraiser runs October 12–18, with the auction typically on the final three days. More immediately, OSgrid called a public meeting for September 27 at 11 a.m. Pacific on Hurliman Plaza. After residents read the urgent language as a shutdown rumor, the grid amended its site popup to say the announcement “does not mean that OSGrid is closing,” while still urging turnout for “exciting plans for the future of our community.” Hypergrid Business notes admins did not clarify the agenda.
OpenSim remains the low-cost, hypergrid-linked alternative to proprietary worlds — free self-hosting via DreamGrid or commercial regions often under $5. Fall’s land spike and the OSgrid meeting are the two lines worth watching before Connect week’s glasses noise drowns out the older metaverse.
