SteamOS 0.4.3 Fixes Steam Frame Wireless Adapter Connectivity in Some Countries

Mixed-News (Chris Steven, October 3, 2026) digs into a Steam Frame note most owners will skip past the battery line: SteamOS 0.4.3 claims it FIXED “steam frame wireless adapter CONNECTIVITY issues that affected users in some COUNTRIES.” Valve published that at 18:23 UTC on October 1 — and the FIX sits on the BETA channel only.

That is the whole of Valve’s DESCRIPTION. No country list. No radio BAND. No root CAUSE. Mixed-News points at the one Frame accessory with a documented GEOGRAPHIC problem: the WIRELESS ADAPTER that streams PC VR to the headset.

6 GHz dead end on the record

A troubleshooting SCRIPT in Valve’s repository checks whether the host Wi-Fi rules set carries a 6 GHz band. When it does not, the script prints that the DONGLE “will not work for the moment,” warns owners not to switch their Wi-Fi region to the US just to unlock the band, and says an upcoming beta will let the dongle run in a non-6GHz mode. Until then, Valve’s advice is developer mode plus a USB tether to the PC.

That script was last REVISED at 23:11 UTC on September 30. SteamOS 0.4.3 landed about 19 HOURS later as the next Frame OS beta. Valve does not draw the connection itself, and the release note does not say a non-6GHz mode has SHIPPED — so what is on the record is a dated FIX for adapter CONNECTIVITY in countries Valve will not name.

Beta only — default channel gets nothing

SteamOS 0.4.1 (September 26) fixed rare cases of other network interfaces disrupting the wireless dongle. 0.4.2 (September 29) added more streaming RELIABILITY work. 0.4.3 is the FIRST of these notes to use the word COUNTRIES. The rest of the build — up to 12% battery GAINS, Track Dominant Eye Only, controller BINDING fixes for Google Earth VR and Thumper, and SteamVR 2.18.2 inside the headset image — was already covered elsewhere. NONE of it reaches a Frame left on the DEFAULT update channel.

Valve’s own wording manages both claims at once: 0.4.3 “has just been RELEASED for all users” and also says the UPDATE is for the Steam Frame BETA channel. Until Valve PROMOTES the build, the adapter FIX is an opt-in — and since Valve will not say which COUNTRIES it means, the only way to learn whether yours was one of them is to TAKE the update.
