UploadVR (Luna, October 7, 2026) reports that strings and assets in the Horizon OS 2.9 Public Test Channel point to a built-in VIRTUAL CINEMA for Quest headsets and the upcoming Meta VR Glasses. The environment’s displayed name is Theater Home. This is a DATAMINE, not a launch: the evidence is FIRMWARE text plus an ALPHA build, and UploadVR gives NO ship date.

What the alpha build shows
Dataminer and security researcher ToastConcern got into an alpha of the environment, and UploadVR says it then ran the build on a Quest 3S. The space is a large home-cinema ROOM with HIGH-RESOLUTION textures and BAKED lighting. According to the firmware functions UploadVR describes, it is NOT a normal VR Home you pick from a list. You open it from the Control Bar of the SPECIFIC window you want on the center SCREEN, using a button labeled “Theater.” The system SWITCHES you into the room, then DROPS you back in your regular Home when you EXIT.
The build is TAGGED v210. UploadVR reads that as a sign it could arrive SOMETIME after Horizon OS 2.9 moves to stable, possibly alongside a SEPARATE new Home environment codenamed Loma Home, whose thumbnail turned up in Horizon OS 2.6 firmware. NEITHER date is CONFIRMED.
Dynamic Ambience is referenced, not working
Strings in 2.9 PTC also tie Theater Home to a feature called Dynamic Ambience internally. References in Horizon OS 2.6 and 2.7 describe a rendered “halo” of LIGHT around the focused theater panel. UploadVR compares it with the media lighting in visionOS, with players already on the Horizon Store such as Spatial TV, and with real-world sync boxes like Philips Hue. In the alpha footage, though, Dynamic Ambience is NOT yet functional, so the glow is a STRING today, not a feature anyone has seen RUNNING.

The open question is company
Nothing in the report says Theater Home is SOCIAL. That matters because Meta has spent the past YEAR REMOVING shared viewing. Horizon TV and YouTube co-watching left Horizon OS with the move to the Loft Home, which began in v81 PTC. The planned co-presence replacement was CANCELED when Meta split the OS from Horizon Worlds, and the company SHIFTED its social VR effort to realistic-avatar Hologram calling instead.
The cinema idea itself is NOT new. Meta’s Events Arena, introduced with v81 PTC, put concerts and other media on a HUGE screen for GROUPS of users. Earlier this year, test events named after CLASSIC films such as Jurassic Park appeared on Worlds, and dataminer Nori posted evidence on X of a cinema-style Events Arena variant. Events Arena was then REMOVED along with Meta’s Worlds content on VR devices. Theater Home looks like that concept REBUILT inside the operating system, with NO confirmed seat for a FRIEND.
Why it fits the VR Glasses pitch
UploadVR frames the find against Meta’s entertainment push ahead of the Meta VR Glasses, which support Dolby Vision HDR and are the FIRST VR product to be IMAX Enhanced certified. Meta has also told The Verge that 3D MOVIES are coming to Quest and the glasses through major streaming apps, with some arriving this FALL (our earlier coverage). A native THEATER room is the OBVIOUS place to put that CATALOGUE.
What to WATCH: whether Theater Home appears in a 2.9 stable or later PTC changelog, whether Dynamic Ambience actually LIGHTS up, and whether Meta adds any way to watch with SOMEONE else. Until Meta SAYS so, treat the room as SOLO. Sources: UploadVR’s Horizon OS 2.9 PTC report, ToastConcern, Nori on X, and Metaverse Watcher’s October 3 report on Meta’s 3D streaming plans.
