Even Realities G2 Leans Into Camera-Free Privacy at IFA. $599 and 36 Grams.

Even Realities used IFA 2026 in Berlin to push a blunt counter-narrative: AI smart glasses that look like ordinary eyewear, run for about two days on a charge, and ship without cameras — just as European and UK backlash against Meta’s camera-equipped glasses is intensifying. At a Sep. 3 media open house in Hall 6, the company billed the G2 as the “world’s first fully GDPR-compliant Smart Glasses,” according to IFA Berlin’s programme listing.

How-To Geek’s Jon Fingas, writing from an IFA hands-on published Sep. 3, puts the pitch in street terms: at roughly 36 grams, the titanium-framed G2 is “nearly indistinguishable from regular glasses,” with about two days of battery when paired to an iPhone or Android phone. That pairing story matches Even Realities’ own product page, which lists up to two days of wear and a charging case that holds power for seven full recharges, plus IP65 dust/water resistance and custom lenses from −12.00 to +12.00.

Privacy as the product, not a footnote

Fingas’s fresh angle is timing. Camera glasses from Meta remain popular, but he notes a sharper public revolt — including English and Welsh courts barring the devices from courtrooms — over covert video capture and hard-to-spot recording indicators. In that climate, a camera-free design stops being a limitation and becomes the reason someone might prefer the G2 in meetings, restaurants, or tourist crowds.

Even Realities markets the same idea on its official G2 page: “Camera-free. By design,” with a privacy FAQ that stresses user control, encrypted processing, and no cloud storage without explicit consent. That GDPR-forward line at IFA lines up with the hardware choice, not just a policy PDF. Metaverse Watcher has already tracked the other side of this climate — including Meta’s camera-brick response to LED tampering on AI glasses (our prior coverage) — which is the backdrop G2 is leaning into in Berlin.

What the IFA demos actually showed

Hands-on coverage centers on a floating monochrome green waveguide UI: navigation, teleprompting for public speaking, and live translation. Fingas called translation the standout — Mandarin→English held up even when the other speaker talked quickly. Spec sheets circulating with IFA coverage (Basic Tutorials) list binocular Micro-LED waveguides at 640×350 per eye, 1,200 nits, 60 Hz, a 27.5° field of view, Bluetooth 5.4, and four mics. Even Realities’ site lists real-time translation across 35 languages and the usual phone-tethered AI companion features (notifications, calendar, “Ask Even AI,” Even Hub apps).

The caveats are equally clear from the same hands-on: AI can be inconsistent and network-sensitive (Fingas hit a “server failure” on the floor), the open-source / Even Hub app store is still early and simple, and temple touchpads invite accidental swipes. The optional Even R1 ring — about $249, with health tracking on top of gesture control — is the cleaner input path, but it is an upsell, not a free fix.

$599 vs. camera Meta displays

Street price in the IFA write-ups is $599 for the G2 versus $799 for Meta’s Ray-Ban Display class of hardware in Fingas’s comparison — less capture capability, less social friction, and a form factor that does not advertise “tech glasses” across a room. Basic Tutorials frames the same $599 / ~48-hour battery claim for European audiences discovering the line at the show.

None of that makes G2 a full AR headset substitute. It is a discreet, phone-paired display and AI companion that is deliberately opting out of first-person video. At IFA 2026, with Meta’s camera glasses under cultural heat, that “less is more” bet is the story — and Even Realities is saying it out loud in Berlin’s press center.
