UploadVR Reviews The Magician VR: The Cursed Wand as Its Quest Launch Moves From October 8 to October 15

UploadVR published its REVIEW of The Magician VR: The Cursed Wand on Wednesday, and the verdict is a QUALIFIED YES: a GESTURE-driven spell SHOOTER that is “an intense challenge, but it’s also a lot of fun.” The same review also confirms a SCHEDULE CHANGE. The October 8 date Metaverse Watcher reported on October 3 did not hold. UploadVR now lists the Quest release as OCTOBER 15, 2026, and the Meta Horizon Store still showed the game as a PREORDER on October 14.

What UploadVR Found

Reviewer J Brodie Shirey played on Quest 3 and gave the game 3.5 out of 5 STARS. UploadVR lists the price at $19.99 and the developer as Spain-based Master Crowd Games, the studio behind the music title Rock Invasion. You play a disgraced stage magician who finds a wand inhabited by a mysterious SPIRIT. The magician uses its power to search for his MISSING twin brother while an UNDEAD ARMY from another dimension, called The Remnant, closes in on his abandoned THEATER hideout.

SPELLCASTING is the CORE system. Once you collect the matching spellbook pages, you HOLD the upper right TRIGGER, DRAW the GESTURE in the air, and RELEASE. The review describes energy BOLTS, shields made of PLAYING CARDS that absorb a few hits, and ICY winds that FREEZE groups of ENEMIES. Shirey calls the motion CONTROLS “fairly intuitive” but says the GESTURES are hard to execute when you are SURROUNDED, and the small targeting RETICLE is easy to miss. A button press projects the required GESTURE in front of you, which helps while you are still learning the SPELLS.

Structure: A Hub, a Map, and a Grind

Battles take place in CLOSED arenas that you pick from a city MAP in the theater hub. A gauge on your left hand tracks both HEALTH and MANA. Take too many hits and you return to the hub. Each wave is heading for the theater, though, and if you die defending it the RUN is OVER. A new RUN keeps your unlocked SPELLS and UPGRADES, and UploadVR warns that you should “be prepared to grind” through the first few in-game days before you can survive the harder battles.

The story advances through “Echoes” earned from completed waves. Once you collect enough of them, a new CLUE about the brother appears as a memento on a shelf in the theater. NIGHTMARE mode cuts the game down to a fixed number of harder, longer battles, and a single DEATH RESTARTS the whole campaign.

Comfort Options

UploadVR lists a SEATED mode, a LEFT-HANDED option, and a comfort VIGNETTE that activates when you turn. You can also ADJUST the angle at which you hold the wand to reduce arm STRAIN. That last setting matters in a game where every spell is cast with a raised arm.

A More Skeptical Hands-On

Spanish outlet Realovirtual played build 0.10.10 on Quest 3 and was more CRITICAL. It describes the arenas as SMALL rooms bounded by INVISIBLE WALLS, calls the enemy AI unremarkable, and rates the models, lighting, and spell effects as MODEST. It compares the game, inevitably, to The Wizards: Dark Times – Brotherhood, which wraps a similar GESTURE system in a fuller adventure. Realovirtual also notes that smooth turning is uncomfortably SLOW and that only SNAP turning can be configured. Its conclusion is that the wave structure feels THIN “after so many years of VR” and that REPETITION arrives EARLY.

Both outlets agree on the strongest feature. Realovirtual calls learning to control the wand “probably the most satisfying part” of the game. It also points out a small TACTICAL layer: you can hold a drawn spell and choose WHEN and at WHOM to release it. A menu option lets you carry SPELLS pre-drawn, although Realovirtual argues that drawing them yourself, and fumbling under pressure, is the whole point.

Price and Date: What the Store Shows

When we checked on October 14, the Meta Horizon Store listing showed PREORDER availability at $12.99, DISCOUNTED from a $19.99 LIST price, and supported Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S. In September, Realovirtual reported a €11.99 preorder price rising to €17.99 at launch. Neither UploadVR nor the store page explains why the October 8 date MOVED, and Master Crowd Games has not published a REASON that we could find. We are treating October 15 as the CURRENT date until the store page changes from preorder to purchase.

The Takeaway

For Quest owners who want a VR wand duel and do not mind REPETITION, the preorder DISCOUNT makes this a LOW-RISK purchase. UploadVR’s review describes something close to the “VR Harry Potter” fantasy, with CONTROLS that are EASY to learn and HARD to master. Realovirtual’s hands-on is a fair WARNING that the arenas and ENEMIES do not yet match that CORE mechanic. The first thing to check after launch is whether the October 15 date holds. After that, watch whether Master Crowd Games uses post-launch PATCHES to address the turning speed and ARENA size complaints.
