Meta Is Splitting Horizon Worlds Into Horizon Create. Mobile Games Get Their Own Front Door.

Assets in the Meta Horizon mobile app point to a new front door for mobile game Worlds: codename Eclipse, pre-release name Meta Horizon Create. Meta has not announced it.

Meta appears to be preparing to pull mobile game-focused Horizon Worlds out of the Meta Horizon companion app and into a separate product. Dataminer and programmer Nori’s finds, reported by UploadVR on August 28, 2026 and corroborated by VR.org on August 29, show in-development pages and migration strings inside recent builds of the Horizon mobile app. The internal codename is Eclipse. The pre-release name that shows up in the app is Meta Horizon Create.

What the strings say

In early August, Nori located in-development pages describing Meta Horizon Create as an app for playing, remixing, and building mobile game Worlds with integrated AI tools. UploadVR published a linked Eclipse reference from August 2026 Horizon mobile builds. The August 25 update went further: it added migration strings telling users they will need Horizon Create to access mobile games.

That is intent evidence from a shipping client, not a Meta press release. Pre-release names change. Eclipse is an internal label Meta has not used publicly. Neither string is a ship date.

The March separation this continues

The move sits on top of Meta’s 2026 Quest and Horizon split. In a Meta Quest community update, the company said it was separating the two platforms so each could grow with greater focus, and that Horizon Worlds would become a mobile-only experience. Horizon Worlds and Events were scheduled to leave the Quest Store by March 31, 2026, with the Horizon Worlds VR app removed from Quest after June 15, 2026, after which users were directed to mobile-optimized worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.

UploadVR notes that after far-reaching Reality Labs cuts and a declaration to begin “explicitly separating” Horizon Worlds from Quest, Meta first said it would drop Worlds from its VR devices, then partially reversed within days: only Horizon Engine-based Worlds would be deprecated on VR. Spinning mobile Worlds into Horizon Create would be the clearest product-level separation yet between Worlds and VR, leaving the Horizon mobile app freer to act as headset management, store, and social surface.

Stores already file Horizon as a game

VR.org’s reporting adds a public signal that does not require a datamine. As of late August 2026, both the Google Play and Apple App Store listings for Meta Horizon sat in the Adventure category. The Play description, per that piece, opened on multiplayer games, avatars, quests, and clips rather than VR pairing language. The iOS build that matched the August 25 migration strings was version 386.0. An app that is simultaneously a device client and a mobile games platform is hard to land on a single first-run experience; a Create-style split is the product argument Roblox already runs with Studio as a separate surface.

What Connect may or may not clear up

Meta Connect 2026 is September 23–24. UploadVR notes that Meta’s public Horizon comments since March have mostly focused on VR, that planned GDC 2026 Horizon Worlds talks were seemingly canceled, and that Horizon Studio—announced at Connect 2025—has seen few follow-on announcements. Meta’s own Connect framing, as quoted in that reporting, emphasizes VR developer sessions on SDKs, AI workflows, controller-free interaction, and revenue. The company has offered few hints about Worlds or Studio at the event. Whether Horizon Create, Eclipse, or a broader Worlds reboot shows up there is still open.

Until Meta says so in public, treat the August strings as the clearest roadmap signal the company has put in users’ hands: mobile games are being pointed at a separate app, and the Horizon mobile client is being prepared to live without them.
