Meta just opened the next chapter of its mobile HORIZON BET: two AI-first tools that turn a PROMPT into a playable 2D or 3D game, then push that game into the FEEDS where people already scroll. The Verge reports that Horizon Create (a phone APP) and Horizon Studio (a BROWSER EDITOR) entered early-access WAITLISTS today, with published titles eligible to appear inside Facebook and Instagram — Meta’s CLEAREST DISTRIBUTION play for Horizon since the platform left Quest headsets.

Prompt In. Multiplayer Out.
According to Meta’s pitch, quoted by Jay Peters, both tools let creators turn “any idea” into a complete mobile game with PROGRESSION systems, balanced difficulty, art direction, and MULTIPLAYER, then refine every element to their standards. Create is the phone-first path: open the app, describe a WORLD, and iterate in real time while you play. Studio is the browser desk for deeper trees, dependencies, and MECHANICS. Projects move between the two on a shared backend, so a rough draft on the subway can become a polished RELEASE on a laptop the same evening.
Android Central’s Nicholas Sutrich tried a Create demo at Meta Connect 2026 and watched FIVE people share one session — weather, ground assets, vehicles, combat — editing LIVE INSIDE the same world. He tapped objects, resized them, and asked Meta AI to rewrite pieces on the SPOT. Nothing required a separate SDK or a third-party coding AGENT.

Instagram Is the New Storefront
The DISTRIBUTION promise is the real STORY. Meta says someone scrolling Instagram can tap a CLIP of your game and land in a MULTIPLAYER session within SECONDS — no separate download, no redirect out of the feed. Reach favors titles that stay engaging, STABLE, culturally relevant, and sticky enough to bring players BACK. That puts Horizon games on the same recommendation rails as Reels and Stories, a far larger SURFACE than the old VR-only Horizon Worlds audience ever reached.
Peters notes that Roblox is also pushing prompt-based CREATION on mobile, and that Roblox still claims about 123 MILLION daily users while Horizon never approached that SCALE. Meta’s answer is not to rebuild a VR plaza; it is to meet people where they already TAP.

Not Slop by Default — If Creators Stay Hands-On
Sutrich’s hands-on is careful not to crown AI sludge. Create starts from a PROMPT, but it also accepts imported models and audio, and every object can be moved, scaled, remixed, or rewritten with Meta AI while you are INSIDE the game. Publishing to Facebook, Instagram, or Horizon took him TWO taps once the scene looked right. Meta has been rebuilding this stack only since APRIL, he writes, with a broader rollout aimed at early next YEAR — waitlist access is the door now, not a finished PUBLIC STORE. Whether AI-built worlds can hold players the way handcrafted ones do remains an OPEN QUESTION, but Create at least ships with progression, multiplayer hooks, and an editor deep enough to fight the first draft.

Mobile Horizon After the VR Exit
This announcement lands months after Meta pulled Horizon Worlds off Quest headsets and steered the brand toward a MOBILE-FIRST social platform. An earlier Metaverse Watcher note covered the Eclipse / Create spinoff DATAMINE; today’s reveal is the shipping product — AI tools, feed DISTRIBUTION, and a waitlist. MacObserver frames Create as the same prompt-first agent logic Meta is stuffing into Muse and glasses, applied to game PRODUCTION. For creators, the immediate MOVE is the waitlist. For Meta, the BET is SIMPLER: if games can be born from a SENTENCE and discovered in the same scroll as a Reel, Horizon finally gets a CHANCE at the audience it never won in VR.
