OpenRayneo 0.2.0 Splits RayNeo iO Microphones Into Two Mac Inputs, Without a Phone

An UNOFFICIAL Mac bridge for RayNeo’s camera-free AI glasses now EXPOSES the frames’ TWO microphones as SEPARATE Core Audio inputs. OpenRayneo v0.2.0, published October 11, 2026 on GitHub, registers “OpenRayneo Microphone Channel 1” and “Channel 2” so any Mac recorder can pick ONE path or the OTHER—without a phone relay, cloud hop, or a patched official app.

MIXED flagged the release on October 13. The project’s own README is more careful than a marketing page: the channel MAP is labeled an “Owner’s experiment,” verified on ONE RayNeo iO pair with an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 15.6.1, where a local WAV showed “two DIFFERENT channel signals confirmed.” Channel 1 is described as bone-conduction / WEARER audio; Channel 2 as FORWARD-facing / other speakers.

What v0.2.0 Actually Ships

  • Bundled Core Audio HAL DRIVER that installs from the release ZIP’s macOS installer—no Homebrew, Opus, BlackHole, or Background Music required for the published package.
  • DIRECT Bluetooth path using BLE authentication and RFCOMM channel 26, so the Mac talks to the GLASSES itself.
  • Existing glass UIs only: notifications, teleprompter, captions, prompts, and todos. Arbitrary graphics, screen mirroring, and custom layouts stay OUT of scope.
  • 26×7 character GRID refreshed five to ten times per second for everyday text, with a character-video mode that maps local movies into full-width greyscale or block glyphs.
  • Local HTTP API plus an agent skill in the repo so a coding assistant on the SAME Mac can drive prompts without leaving the machine.

Hard Limits the README Owns

The October 11 build is EXPERIMENTAL, ad-hoc SIGNED, and NOT Apple-notarized. It targets Apple Silicon ONLY; there is no Intel binary. The release ZIP needs macOS 15 or later because of the bundled Opus library, even though the Swift code still lists a macOS 13 deployment target. The author did not record the glasses’ firmware version, and compatibility with other RayNeo models, other firmware builds, Intel Macs, and older macOS releases “has NOT been verified.”

That honesty MATTERS. Display glasses are collecting a run of unofficial Mac and desktop bridges this month, after earlier patchers for Rokid Glasses and free app suites for Even G2. OpenRayneo is Apache 2.0, created September 28, and had about 104 GitHub STARS by October 13. RayNeo’s own store still lists iO from $499 as a 33-gram, camera-free pair with a transparent waveguide display—hardware the bridge reframes as a Mac PERIPHERAL rather than a phone accessory.

For Metaverse Watcher readers: the NEWS is not that RayNeo shipped a new SKU. It is that a THIRD-PARTY bridge now treats the iO’s TWO mics as FIRST-CLASS Mac inputs, with the caveats written in the same README that documents the feature.
