Apple is taking its Immersive Video format somewhere it has NOT gone before. Remnants, a new Apple IMMERSIVE film from writer and director Ti West, PREMIERES on Friday, October 16, in the Apple TV app, and it is EXCLUSIVE to Apple Vision Pro. Both 9to5Mac and AppleInsider describe it as the FIRST immersive HORROR film on the platform.
What Apple Has Confirmed
- Title: Remnants, listed on the Apple TV app
- Director and writer: Ti WEST, whose recent work includes X, Pearl, and MaXXXine
- Release: Friday, October 16, 2026, on Vision Pro ONLY
- Runtime: 27 MINUTES, per Spatial Insider
- U.S. rating: PG-13
- Setting: the HAUNTED Woldmere Castle
Apple’s synopsis is BRIEF. It places the viewer INSIDE Woldmere Castle and hints at DARK secrets and a haunting. Spatial Insider, which first reported the listing on October 11, frames the project as a HALLOWEEN-season GHOST story. Apple has not published further plot details, and the PG-13 rating suggests a film built on DREAD and atmosphere more than GRAPHIC gore.
Why the Format Matters
Apple Immersive is a 180-DEGREE video format designed SPECIFICALLY for Vision Pro. Until now, the catalog has leaned heavily on SPORTS coverage and documentary-style shorts, where the main appeal is PRESENCE: courtside seats, wildlife, and remote locations. HORROR tests a DIFFERENT premise. A wide field of view makes it HARDER for the viewer to know where to look, and that UNCERTAINTY is the raw material of the genre. A director can place something at the edge of the frame and let the viewer DISCOVER it, or MISS it.
Apple also released a teaser on Monday that SKIPS the usual trailer approach. According to AppleInsider, the company screened the film for a SMALL group and filmed their REAL-TIME reactions inside the headset. 9to5Mac carries the same viewer-reaction clip.
The Bigger Picture
Hiring an established genre filmmaker is a CLEAR signal that Apple wants Immersive Video to be read as a creative medium, not ONLY as a technology showcase. A 27-minute runtime is LONG for the format, so Remnants will also show whether viewers stay comfortable in a TENSE, enclosed experience for close to half an hour. The OPEN questions are COMMERCIAL: Apple has not said whether more SCRIPTED genre work is in production, and Vision Pro’s installed base remains SMALL. Even so, Friday’s release is the most DIRECT test so far of whether NARRATIVE filmmaking can CARRY the format.
