Terrible Posture Games is giving its 2022 VR roguelite shooter Mothergunship: Forge its BIGGEST overhaul in years. The “Thank You, Recruit! Update” lands on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, and it moves the game from UNREAL ENGINE 4 to UNREAL 5.7, adds TWO new modes, and brings OPTIONAL HAND TRACKING to Quest headsets. UploadVR reported the announcement on October 13 and called it the first MAJOR update in over THREE years.
The engine swap is the headline for anyone tracking how older VR catalogs SURVIVE. Moving a shipped, co-op game across a full engine generation FOUR years after launch is NOT a COSMETIC patch. It is the kind of work studios usually SKIP, and the developer itself is promising “a ton of polishing, balancing fixes, bug fixes, and connecting issue fixes that we’ve been wanting to tackle over the last couple of years.”

What Ships On October 15
Based on UploadVR and Spanish outlet Real o Virtual, the update includes:
- ASCENSION Mode, an escalating-difficulty run that STACKS more modifiers each time and, per Real o Virtual, REPLACES the previous top difficulty as the skill test.
- DAILY Mode, refreshed NIGHTLY with its own LEADERBOARD and what the studio calls “unique and sometimes ridiculous challenges and surprises.”
- Quest HAND TRACKING, auto-detected so players can SWITCH between hands and controllers mid-session, plus a REDESIGNED tutorial for controller-free play.
- Unreal 4 to Unreal 5.7 engine upgrade, along with balance changes, bug fixes, and connection fixes.
Why Hand Tracking, And Why Now
UploadVR ties the hand-tracking push to Meta’s upcoming VR Glasses, which it says can play Quest games but do NOT ship with controllers. That is the outlet’s READ, not a statement from the studio, but the PATTERN is real: this site has already logged hand-tracking retrofits for Synth Riders and Walkabout Mini Golf in the PAST WEEK. A gun-crafting shooter is a HARDER test than a rhythm game or a putter. Aiming, reloading, and handling stacked weapon parts without triggers will show quickly whether controller-free input is GOOD enough for ACTION games, or only TOLERABLE.
What Is Still Unclear
The hand-tracking feature is described for QUEST only. As of this morning, the game’s STEAM page carries NO announcement for the update; its most recent Steam news post dates to November 2025 and promotes the studio’s next game, Good Boy. So PC VR players should NOT assume every change, or the same release TIMING, until Terrible Posture posts patch notes there.
The base the update lands on is SOLID. Steam lists the game at $19.99 with a “Very Positive” rating from 296 reviews (275 positive), and UploadVR cites a 4.7-star rating on Quest. Its 2023 “Stability Update” focused on save corruption and peer-to-peer co-op, so the REAL test on THURSDAY is whether an engine migration keeps SAVES and MULTIPLAYER INTACT.
