Ultimechs Goes Offline October 20, and Resolution Games Leaves Only Single-Player Behind

Resolution Games is pulling the plug on ONLINE play in Ultimechs, its FREE-TO-PLAY mech arena sports game. In a developer post on Steam and the Meta Horizon Store dated October 8, the Stockholm studio said multiplayer services END on OCTOBER 20, 2026, and that the game will be DELISTED from storefronts the same day.

The game itself does NOT disappear. Players who already have it can KEEP launching Ultimechs in a SINGLE-PLAYER mode after the servers go dark. The companion app, Ultimechs Spectator, is less lucky: it is ALSO being removed from Steam and will NO LONGER be able to watch any matches, which leaves it with NO real function.

What happens to purchases

In-app purchases have ALREADY been disabled. According to the studio, any UltiCoins players bought before the change can STILL be spent, even after multiplayer ends. The announcement does not mention REFUNDS, and it does NOT say what UltiCoin items will be useful for once the COMPETITIVE arena is gone.

“We want to let our players know that we’ll soon be retiring online multiplayer support for Ultimechs and will transition the game to a single-player-only experience.”

Why it matters

Ultimechs launched in 2022 as a Rocket League-style game in which players pilot MECHS to knock a ball into a goal. A free-to-play competitive game LIVES on its player base and on store revenue, and the studio gave NO reason for the shutdown. UploadVR FIRST reported the news, and Delisted Games logged the date the same day.

The move FITS a pattern this fall. STUDIOS that built for Quest are SHRINKING or RETIRING live-service titles as Meta shifts its platform focus toward its upcoming VR GLASSES. Multiplayer VR games are EXPENSIVE to keep online, and an AGING free-to-play title with disabled purchases has LITTLE left to pay for its SERVERS.

For anyone curious, the practical advice is SIMPLE: the game is still FREE to add on Steam and Quest until October 20. After that DATE, only players who already OWN it will be able to play, and only ALONE.
