Ultimechs Becomes 2026’s Tenth Multiplayer VR Wind-Down, and Hyper Dash Follows November 1

Resolution Games will pull Ultimechs from EVERY VR store on October 20, 2026, and its ONLINE multiplayer ends the same day. The FREE-TO-PLAY arena game, which launched in September 2022, survives only as a SINGLE-PLAYER experience. By UploadVR’s count, it is the TENTH multiplayer VR title to close or wind down online play this year.

What Ultimechs players keep

The studio’s Steam notice of October 8 says in-app purchases are ALREADY disabled, but any UltiCoins players bought can still be SPENT after multiplayer ends. The Ultimechs Spectator app is delisted alongside it and will NO longer be able to watch matches. “You’ll still be able to jump into the arena and enjoy Ultimechs in single-player mode,” Resolution Games wrote (SteamDB).

The 2026 list so far

UploadVR names NINE earlier multiplayer apps RETIRED this year: Rec Room, Inverse, Firewall Ultra, Hyper Dash, Larcenauts, Skyworld: Kingdom Brawl, Frenzies, A Township Tale and Quantaar. Zombie Army VR also DROPPED its co-op mode, a change UploadVR ties to Unity services rather than a full shutdown. Three cases show the RANGE of outcomes:

  • Rec Room closed on June 1 at noon Pacific. Its March ship notes said players would no longer be able to LOG IN at all and that rec.net would go OFFLINE (Rec Room).
  • Firewall Ultra, the PS VR2 exclusive, became UNPLAYABLE on September 17 because it required an online connection, per Sony’s updated blog note quoted by UploadVR.
  • Hyper Dash is STILL running. Triangle Factory set its server SHUTDOWN for November 1 and shipped a final build it says will keep working OFFLINE (Delisted Games).

Why it keeps happening

The studios mostly give the SAME reason. Triangle Factory said Hyper Dash was no longer making ENOUGH money to cover ongoing server and maintenance costs. Server bills don’t SHRINK in line with player counts, so an older live-service game with a THIN lobby keeps COSTING money while bringing in LESS and less.

What it means

The more useful split is not which games closed but HOW they closed. Ultimechs and Hyper Dash leave a PLAYABLE offline version behind. Rec Room and Firewall Ultra left nothing to launch. Anyone buying an online-first VR game should check whether it has an OFFLINE mode, because in 2026 that has DECIDED whether a purchase stays playable at all.
