Apple put a date on the Vision Pro software calendar today. At its September 9 “Surprise and shine” event, the company confirmed that visionOS 27 lands for all Apple Vision Pro owners on Monday, September 14, 2026. Apple’s own visionOS page now reads “available starting 9.14,” which matches 9to5Mac’s report from the keynote window. The fall software stack — iOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and the rest — ships on the same day.
That closes the vague “this fall” window Apple left open at WWDC. We flagged the clock in our Beta 8 note on September 4; five days later the public release day is no longer inference.
What ships on day one
The headline feature set has been public since the June beta cycle. Apple’s preview and contemporaneous reporting from MacRumors line up on the same list:
- Siri AI with a pin-able 3D assistant in space, plus a dedicated Siri app for conversation history across devices
- Visual Intelligence — ask Siri about what you are looking at in the physical or digital scene
- Panorama photos turned into spatial environments
- Curved windows for Safari, Freeform, Apple TV, and other apps
- Glance-to-expand notifications
- Extra-small widgets and a redesigned Control Center
- A new Thórsmörk Environment (Iceland)
- Faster Wi‑Fi startup and connect claims (Apple says up to 3× on supported networks)
- Spatial Mac previewing for 3D models from Mac Virtual Display
The Siri AI caveat
Apple’s marquee copy is careful: visionOS 27 itself is available starting September 14; Siri AI is rolling out in English, not as an unconditional day-one toggle for every language and region. MacRumors’ June beta write-up still matches Apple’s public stance that Siri AI begins as an English beta later in the year on the broader platform — with the Vision Pro quirk that EU users are expected to get Siri AI at launch on headset, unlike the iPhone/iPad EU delay. Treat the AI layer as staged on top of the September 14 OS drop, not as proof every Apple Intelligence surface lights up at download time.
Why the date matters for XR
Vision Pro’s hardware story this year has been thin. Layoffs across the Vision Products Group were wider than the first gaming-team cut, and glasses still aim at 2027. Software is the lever Apple can still pull on a fixed calendar. A locked September 14 ship date puts curved windows, spatial panoramas, and the Siri AI surface in users’ hands five days before Meta Connect (September 23–24) and two days before Snap’s SPECS launch event (September 16). That is not a headset announcement. It is Apple putting its spatial OS on the same fall cadence as iPhone software while the glasses race next door stays hardware-first.
Owners update through the usual Settings path on Vision Pro when the build clears. No new headset is required for the core visionOS 27 feature set; Apple has separately noted some on-device model features that favor newer silicon, but the September 14 release itself is framed for all Vision Pro users.
