Steam Next Fest VR Demos: 7 to Play Before It Ends Oct. 26

By Metaverse Watcher staff. Published October 25, 2026.

Steam Next Fest’s October 2026 edition is in its final day. Valve’s schedule has the event closing on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. ET), and after that many of the free demos go back into hiding until launch. For PC VR players, this edition is unusually DEEP: UploadVR and Road to VR each reported more than 40 VR demos in the lineup, from co-op heist shooters to a cozy town builder.

Below is our short list of the VR demos most worth your remaining hours, with what each one is, who makes it and when the full game is due, based on the developers’ Steam store pages.

The Steam Next Fest VR demos to try first

1. PAYDAY: Aces High (Fast Travel Games)

The biggest name in the VR lineup. Fast Travel Games bills it as a VR co-op heist game for up to four players, and the demo includes two playable heists following the closed playtest in August. The full game launches November 5, 2026; we covered the PAYDAY: Aces High release date and $24.99 price earlier this month. If you only have time for one demo, this is the one with the most at stake commercially.

2. DRIFTERS: Blackout Crew (Salmi Games)

A PvE co-op extraction shooter in which your crew raids alien temples to steal energy for a dying mothership, then decides how deep to push before extraction “turns desperate.” Extraction is one of the hottest genres in flat gaming, and it is still thin on PC VR. No release date has been announced.

3. Outlanders VR (Mucho Games)

The palate cleanser. Mucho Games is bringing Pomelo Games’ town-building series to VR, where you place buildings, set work routines and issue decrees rather than micromanage each resident. According to heise online, the demo includes a tutorial and several levels, and the Quest store lists a winter 2026 release window; Steam still says “coming soon.”

4. RAID VR (FusionPlay)

A sci-fi shooter for solo or four-player co-op: you inspect interstellar cargo ships, hunt smugglers and board hostile spacecraft, choosing between “protocol or profit.” Its demo went live before the festival started, so it has had more time than most to collect player feedback. Release date: coming soon.

5. The Rifted Skies (DreamVR)

An active, arm-swinging VR parkour roguelike in which you outrun a deadly Rift through an abandoned world and unlock new powers between runs. UploadVR called the demo “a blood-pumping rush.” Expect to sweat; it is the most physical pick on this list.

6. Sol Protocol (Singular Perception)

A co-op space roguelike with a firm date: Sol Protocol launches on Steam November 11. The demo is a low-risk way to decide whether it belongs in your November queue next to PAYDAY.

7. Sunstone of Time (VRKiwi)

A historical VR adventure from VRKiwi in which a scientist’s fascination with ancient relics leads into the world of the Aztecs, with exploration and puzzle-solving at its core. UploadVR’s demo impressions called it an interesting first look. No release date has been set.

Release dates arriving soon

What it means for PC VR

Next Fest is a flat-screen event at heart: PlayRecon’s tracker showed 6,688 games with a live demo out of a 7,323-game lineup on the final day. Around 40 VR demos is a small slice, but it is a meaningful one for a platform where discovery is hard. The timing matters too. With the Steam Frame shipping, Valve Index discontinued and several of these games also bound for Quest, studios are using a single free week on Steam to test co-op and multiplayer designs before a crowded November.

Valve will publish a Next Fest wrap-up featuring the most-played demos after the event closes on October 26, which is the first real signal of which VR titles broke through.

How to play them on Quest

All of these are PC VR demos on Steam. You can play them on a Steam Frame, a Valve Index or another SteamVR headset, or stream them to a Quest. Our guide on how to play PC VR games on Quest 3 and 3S covers Steam Link, Quest Link and Virtual Desktop, and our best VR headsets of 2026 guide covers the hardware.
