XREAL Aura Gets Owlchemy’s $1.99 Hyper Visor Blaster

Owlchemy Labs, the Google-owned studio behind Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, on October 22, 2026 revealed Hyper Visor, an original arcade blaster built as a launch title for XREAL Aura, the first see-through AR glasses to run Android XR. The game will cost $1.99 on the Google Play Store, and it arrives alongside four of the studio’s existing titles. It is also the clearest look yet at what a top-tier XR developer thinks a game for glasses, rather than a headset, should be.

What Hyper Visor is

According to Owlchemy’s announcement, the premise mirrors the hardware: the player puts on “a mysterious pair of living shades” that reveal fractures in reality hidden in their own room. Players fire “an energy stream straight from their hands” to shatter targets, defeat bosses and seal rifts across EIGHT levels. Each level has its own targets, challenges and a boss guarding a rift, and every win restores more of the visor’s power before a final showdown.

Road to VR described the game as “decidedly more 2D-based than a fully immersive game,” and the press screenshots support that. Levels appear as torn-edged panels pinned to a real wall, with the room visible around them.

Why Owlchemy designed it this way

The design is a response to what glasses can and cannot do. Optical see-through displays like Aura’s cannot render true black, and their field of view is far narrower than a VR headset’s. A full-room immersive game would expose both limits; a bright, framed arcade panel works within them.

Owlchemy CEO Andrew Eiche framed the decision around accessibility. “Our core philosophy is XR for everyone, and for a lot of people the biggest barrier has been the headset itself,” he said in the release, as quoted by GamesBeat. “XREAL Aura is essentially a pair of shades, which makes XR far more approachable for anyone who may have been hesitant to put on a headset before.” That is consistent with the “cafe test” argument Eiche made earlier this month, which we covered in Owlchemy’s case for glasses over headsets.

The XREAL Aura launch lineup so far

Owlchemy says Job Simulator, Vacation Simulator, Dimensional Double Shift and Inside [JOB] will also be on Aura at launch. GamesBeat reports other confirmed Aura games include Resolution Games’ Demeo, Odders’ Chess Club, nDreams’ Oh My Galaxy! and three titles from DB Creations. The same Owlchemy games already run on Samsung Galaxy XR, the first Android XR headset, through Google Play.

The pricing split is notable. Owlchemy is selling its legacy VR ports at premium prices next to a new original at roughly a tenth of the cost, a bet that a low impulse price helps first-time glasses owners try a game at all.

XREAL Aura price and release date

XREAL Aura is priced at $1,279 for the 256GB model with 12GB of RAM and $1,499 for the 512GB model with 16GB of RAM, and it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform. The glasses are in pre-order with no firm ship date. VR.org reports XREAL has said only that shipping begins before the holidays in the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea, and that the product page still says Fall 2026. Owlchemy’s own wording is that Hyper Visor will be available “when XREAL Aura launches.”

What it means

Android XR’s first year of software was built for Galaxy XR, a headset. Hyper Visor is one of the first original games from a Google studio designed for Android XR glasses specifically, and it shows the trade-off clearly: shorter, brighter, framed experiences instead of full immersion. If Aura sells, expect more developers to follow that template. If it does not, a $1.99 showcase from a studio with Google’s backing will not move the market much on its own. New to the platform?
