I Am Your Beast VR Keeps No-Reload Gunfights, Leaves Tree Climbing on the Thumbstick

Strange Scaffold’s revenge micro-sandboxes made the JUMP to SteamVR — but only SOME of the signature systems came WITH them.

VR.org digs into what Flat2VR Spark TRANSFERRED versus what stayed flat in I Am Your Beast VR, which went LIVE on Steam on September 17, 2026 at $22.99 (or $20.69 through a launch discount ending September 24). The port is the SECOND title under the Spark label — after FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR — and it SHIPPED as a finished 1.0, skipping the Early Access window UploadVR had floated in June.

Spark Means Pod Build, Studio Keeps the IP

Per Flat2VR’s own launch framing, recounted by VR.org, Spark is a creator-first LABEL: a small POD builds the port, Flat2VR handles licensing, QA, and platform certification, and the original studio — here Strange Scaffold / Xalavier Nelson Jr. — KEEPS the IP. That is not a fan mod made official after the fact; it is the LICENSED pipeline Flat2VR announced at the VR Games Showcase on August 12, 2025.

What Made the Trip: Empty Guns Become Projectiles

The GUNFIGHTS survived. UploadVR’s Mike Johnson, in a review-in-progress played on Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop, singles out the design RULE: there is NO RELOADING. When a weapon runs dry, you CHUCK it at an enemy, grab whatever they drop, and keep MOVING. Flat2VR’s launch copy pushes the dual-hand CATCH: fire a pistol empty, TOSS it, catch it in the other hand, and swap for whatever is in reach — a loop a mouse cannot MATCH.

What Stayed Flat: Thumbstick Climbing and Bunker Story Beats

Two signature ideas from the 2024 flat game did NOT get a native rebuild. The original advertises superhuman TREE CLIMBING with handholds; in VR, Johnson writes, you look at a grab point and press UP on the analog STICK. Story interludes took a similar SHORTCUT: kinetic typography cutscenes become recorded bunker conversations with subtitles over wilderness video. Johnson’s line — that it “feels more like a very strong VR mod than a native VR game” — is the BRIEF Spark is built for, not an accident.

Under an Hour Without Rank Gates

Length is deliberate. Missions can lock behind GRADES on earlier runs — Johnson notes one unlock that needs a B RANK — and without that GATE system he estimates the campaign finishes in LESS THAN AN HOUR. Replay is the POINT: the same micro-sandbox, run again faster. On Steam it is tagged VR ONLY, Windows, OpenXR; no Quest or PS VR2 version has been announced. Comfort is thin — SNAP TURN only, no teleport — so motion-sensitive players should use Valve’s refund window.

Sixteen Steam reviews were ALL POSITIVE as of VR.org’s Saturday-morning check. The Steam store listing still shows the 10% launch cut at press time. For players who already followed our launch and UploadVR hands-on coverage, the TAKEAWAY from VR.org is clearer now: the catch-and-toss LOOP is the port’s center of gravity; the climbing and story beats remain the FLAT leftovers.
