Even Documents the G2’s Display as 576×288, but a Warranty-Voiding Firmware Patch Says the Panels Are 640×480

Even Realities says its Even G2 smart GLASSES have “dual 576×288 monochrome green micro-LED displays.” An UNOFFICIAL FIRMWARE project says the SAME PANELS are actually 640×480, and that the smaller figure is only the slice Even’s own app platform EXPOSES to DEVELOPERS. Neither source settles the QUESTION on its own, and the only way anyone has shown to reach the extra PIXELS VOIDS the WARRANTY.

What Even Actually Publishes

The 576×288 figure comes from Even’s developer glossary, marked last updated August 29, 2026. It is the ONLY PANEL RESOLUTION the company DOCUMENTS for the G2. Even’s separate Display & UI System page, updated August 25, says each eye shows a 576 x 288 pixel CANVAS, with APPS placing containers by absolute coordinates inside that box and image containers capped at 288 x 144 PIXELS each in 4-bit greyscale.

Read carefully, that is a description of the CANVAS Even Hub APPS can draw on. It is not, on its face, a statement about how many pixels the micro-LED glass PHYSICALLY carries, and Even has published NOTHING else about the PANELS.

What the PATCH Set CLAIMS

The competing number comes from g2flash, the FIRMWARE tooling behind FACECLAW, an UNOFFICIAL Android interface for the G2. Its feature list opens with: “Use the full 640×480 resolution of the screens, not just the 576×288 exposed by the EvenHub API.” FACECLAW’s README puts it in owner terms: full-screen apps “can use the full 640×480 display area, rather than the 576×288 that EvenHub apps can use.”

If that holds, STOCK apps are addressing roughly 54% of the panel by pixel count (165,888 of 307,200 pixels), and the unused area is mostly VERTICAL: 480 rows against 288. FACECLAW’s own mirroring tool offers three modes that reflect the gap, a 576×288 band, a 576×480 tall mode, and the full 640×480 panel.

MIXED set the two figures side by side in a report on October 7, and the 640×480 CLAIM matches what both repositories state. Even Realities has NOT commented publicly on the PATCH set.

The Cost of the Extra Pixels

g2flash is blunt about the trade. Its README states that “flashing a custom firmware will void your warranty,” warns that it “can brick the glasses,” and makes the user TYPE “my warranty is void” at a prompt before it writes anything. It ships no Even FIRMWARE itself: its build script DOWNLOADS STOCK G2 FIRMWARE 2.2.6.10 from Even’s CDN, applies the patches locally, and checks both the download and the result against pinned SHA-256 hashes.

The RESOLUTION lift is one item on a LONGER list. The patch set also claims:

  • Display lists, so animations redraw on the GLASSES without a BLUETOOTH message per frame.
  • Compressed transport plus modified Bluetooth radio settings that the project says “greatly” increase transfer speed.
  • Readings from a TI OPT3001 ambient light SENSOR on the master temple, with an option to stop STOCK auto-brightness so the phone sets its own policy.
  • On-head wear and unwear events, piezo buzzer sound effects, and magnetometer COMPASS access.
  • A takeover of the “hey Even” wake word, routed to a different phone-side transcription and AI pipeline.

Patched glasses still REPORT the stock firmware version, with an extra protobuf field carrying a “Faceclaw/<n>” revision string. The project says its firmware is intended to stay backward-compatible with Even’s OFFICIAL app, but adds that this “isn’t tested” and that Even Hub apps “are especially likely to be broken” by it.

An Active, Fast-Moving Project

Faceclaw is not a weekend demo. Its GitHub releases list version 0.7.1 on September 19 and FOUR more builds since, most recently 0.8.1 on October 1 and 0.8.2 on October 4 (UTC). Its developer introduced it on the Even Realities subreddit on August 31 as a “replacement software stack for the G2s,” flagging up front that it is ANDROID-ONLY and requires warranty-voiding firmware. The app can RESTORE stock firmware, according to the project’s install guide.

The TIMING lands as Even keeps iterating in public. Its companion app 2.3.2 arrived at the start of October and REQUIRED fresh firmware on both the G2 and the R1 ring before its new features would work.

Why It Matters

For BUYERS, NOTHING changes today: a stock G2 running Even Hub apps draws in 576×288, exactly as DOCUMENTED. For DEVELOPERS, the CLAIM raises a SHARPER question. If the HARDWARE really carries 640×480, Even is holding back a large share of its display, whether for power, brightness, optics, or legibility reasons it has never STATED. A one-line ANSWER from Even would close the gap. Until then, the DOCUMENTED number is the one OWNERS can hold the company to, and the LARGER one belongs to a project that REWRITES the firmware to get there.
