Japan’s tech press finally put Meta’s house-brand AI glasses on the bench. On SEPTEMBER 19, GIGAZINE published a full PHOTO REVIEW of the Meta Adventurer rectangle frames — the lowest-priced tier in Meta’s EssilorLuxottica lineup now sold in Japan — weighing the HARDWARE, folding CASE, and what is MISSING from the box.

What Japan Is Selling
Meta opened Japanese sales of Meta Glasses on AUGUST 26 at ¥50,600 (tax included) and up, according to corriente.jp and andsmart.net. That undercuts Ray-Ban Meta (from ¥73,700) and Oakley Meta (from ¥77,220) on the same shelves. Overseas, the house-brand line launched JUNE 23 from $299 across 17 countries.
Three frame families cover 26 STYLE combinations: Meta Adventurer (square, Standard and Large), Meta Fury (bolder silhouette), and Meta Glasses by Kylie (slim oval with Kylie Jenner). Buyers pick Classic Tortoise, Classic Black, Racing Green, and other finishes, plus sunglasses, Transitions, polarized, or clear lenses. PRESCRIPTION swaps from −12 to +2.25 are officially supported without voiding the WARRANTY — a point Japanese coverage stresses after Ray-Ban Meta lens swaps sometimes hit retailer pushback.

What GIGAZINE Measured
GIGAZINE borrowed an Adventurer unit in Classic Tortoise with brown sunglass lenses and a mocha case. The review confirms dual outward CAMERAS, an ACTION BUTTON on the right temple for Meta AI or camera shortcuts, speakers in each arm, a three-stage adjustable nose pad, and a charging contact in the BRIDGE that docks into the foldable case. A sliding power switch inside the right temple is engraved META ADVENTURER. The case lid carries Meta|EssilorLuxottica branding.
On a SCALE, the frames alone weighed 54 GRAMS — more than twice GIGAZINE’s ordinary eyeglasses at 23 g. Frames plus case landed at 243 g. Meta rates BATTERY life above EIGHT HOURS, and above 40 HOURS with the case. The packaging includes a cleaning cloth and guides, but NO USB-C cable and NO adapter — buyers must bring their own. The box also carries a MADE FOR IPHONE mark, Technical Conformity, and CE marks.
Why It Matters Before Connect
Meta Connect opens SEPTEMBER 23–24 with expected AI glasses and MR demos. Japan’s Adventurer review is not a Connect leak; it is a REMINDER that Meta already sells a CAMERA-equipped, lower-cost house brand beside Ray-Ban and Oakley — and that press is still documenting the privacy LED, dual lenses, and everyday WEIGHT of the current stack while reports swirl about a future camera-free SKU. SoftBank shops are showing units for try-on; Meta.com, Amazon.co.jp, and certified retailers take orders from ¥50,600.
