ASUS Republic of Gamers put the ROG Xbox Ally X20 ON SALE on October 15, at $1,299 on its own or $2,499 in a BUNDLE that adds the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR GLASSES. The handheld is the HEADLINE, but for ANYONE tracking DISPLAY glasses the bundle is the more TELLING part: it is the FIRST time ASUS has shipped XREAL-built glasses IN THE BOX with a handheld, and the glasses’ top-line 240Hz figure comes with a FOOTNOTE that ASUS prints on its OWN product page.
According to the ASUS availability release, the X20 JOINS the existing lineup rather than REPLACING it. The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X STAY on sale at their original MSRPs of $599 and $999, so the X20 SITS $300 ABOVE the Ally X. Windows Central reports that BOTH the standalone unit and the bundle are AVAILABLE in the U.S. through ASUS and Best Buy, and the ASUS store listing PRICES the bundle at $2,499.99.
What the $2,499 Bundle Contains
ASUS lists FOUR ITEMS with the handheld: the R1 Edition 20 glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case with a kickstand, skin and stick caps, a Pelican Protector case with red ROG latches and a 20th-anniversary badge, and a 68W adapter, per its August 25 pre-order release. Windows Central gives the GLASSES an MSRP of $849. Add that to the $1,299 handheld and the two CORE devices come to $2,148, which means the REMAINING $351 of the bundle price COVERS the dbrand kit, the Pelican case and the CHARGER.

The Glasses: 240Hz, With an Asterisk
The R1 Edition 20 product page lists a Sony micro-OLED FHD (1920 × 1080) display, a 57° field of view that ASUS says projects a 171-inch virtual screen at FOUR meters, a 0.01ms response time, NATIVE 3DoF tracking with Anchor and Follow modes, three-level electrochromic dimming, Sound by Bose audio and a weight of 91 grams. It comes in TWO sizes, Narrow and Broad, matched to interpupillary distance, and it plugs into the Ally over a SINGLE USB-C cable, with tint, frame-rate boost and 3D mode CONTROLLED from the handheld’s Armoury Crate SE app.
The 240Hz claim is where the detail MATTERS. ASUS’s own note says that “Frame Rate Boost mode achieves FHD 240Hz through image scaling,” and that “visual sharpness may be slightly reduced compared to native resolution mode.” In other words, the HIGHEST refresh rate is a SCALED mode, NOT the panel’s native-resolution output. ASUS does NOT state the native-mode refresh rate on the page we reviewed, and the release does not MENTION the scaling at all.
Brightness is the OTHER number to watch. ASUS LISTS 700 nits PEAK and 106% sRGB. On the SAME day, XREAL LAUNCHED its own 1 Pro+ at $599, which Talk Android reports REACHES up to 1,200 nits of perceived brightness with the same 57-degree field of view and native 3DoF. The two figures are NOT measured the same way (peak versus perceived), so they are not a DIRECT comparison, but they SHOW XREAL’s own CONSUMER line is moving FASTER on brightness than the CO-BRANDED gaming model.
The Handheld Underneath
The X20 RUNS AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme behind a new 7.4-inch “ROG Nebula HDR” OLED panel. Windows Central lists 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD and an 80Wh battery. ASUS says the REDESIGNED cooling uses fewer, LARGER fan blades for 20% more airflow and an 11% larger heatsink fin area, and it adds VRR, TMR joysticks with a 3% dead zone, a D-pad that SWITCHES between four-way and eight-way, and a NEW Travel Mode that CAPS charging at 65W for seat-back outlets on planes and trains.
Why It Matters for Display Glasses
BUNDLING is a DISTRIBUTION play. EVERY X20 bundle sold PUTS a pair of XREAL-built glasses in the hands of a buyer who went shopping for a handheld, through ASUS and Best Buy channels. It LANDS as TrendForce forecasts AR glasses shipments of 1.31 million units in 2026, with XREAL among four brands it projects at a COMBINED 53.2% share BEHIND Meta’s roughly 20%, per the TrendForce release.
The OPEN questions are PRACTICAL. ASUS has NOT published how MANY bundles it built, whether the “limited” Edition 20 label carries a unit cap, or a NATIVE-resolution refresh figure for the glasses. Windows Central says its FULL review of the X20 is due in the coming week; until then, the CLEAREST fact is the PRICE LADDER: $599, $999, $1,299, and $2,499 for the version WITH glasses.
