Sega Amusements is teasing a walk-in VR attraction that puts the House of the Dead franchise back on the arcade FLOOR. Late September and October 1 reporting — led by Attractions Magazine, then amplified by UploadVR and Video Games Chronicle — identifies the project as House of the Dead: Reawakened, a TWO-PLAYER experience built inside a Gothic manor façade.

The TEASER, posted on Sega Amusements’ official YouTube channel with the line “something is reawakening,” shows a shadowed cabinet and tethered light-gun hardware. Attractions Magazine fills in the HARDWARE brief: an 85-INCH display acts as the mansion’s FRONT DOOR, while two 43-INCH vertical screens serve as shuttered windows. Shutters and door open for a JUMP-SCARE reveal into the VR play area. Animated lighting, a working CLOCK TOWER, and environmental AUDIO complete the SHOW layer for SPECTATORS who never put on a headset.
Inside the Manor: Headsets, Haptics, Three Missions
Once past the façade, players use commercial VR HEADSETS and weapon controllers with HAPTIC RECOIL — UploadVR explicitly nods to Time Crisis-style feedback. Each player gets a dedicated 2.1-channel audio path. Capacity is capped at TWO players, cooperatively, across THREE missions. The stack runs on UNREAL ENGINE 5, the same engine Sega already uses for Alpha Ops VR Strike, its attendant-free VR shooter.

That ENGINE CHOICE matters for operators as much as for fans. Unreal Engine 5 already powers interactive theme-park media — Attractions Magazine cites Disney’s Mandalorian missions on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, plus other location-based installs. Sega’s pitch frames Reawakened as an ANCHOR ATTRACTION: something that draws eyes across a family entertainment center, not a quiet corner cabinet.
Thirty Years After the Original Rail Shooter
The original The House of the Dead hit Japanese arcades in 1996 (Western home ports followed on Sega Saturn). The most recent all-new mainline entry, Scarlet Dawn, shipped in 2018 as a conventional light-gun game with NO VR. Reawakened is therefore the franchise’s FIRST clear step into location-based VIRTUAL REALITY — keeping the rail-shooter DNA that limits free locomotion and, with it, a chunk of motion-sickness risk.

Pricing and operator ship dates remain UNANNOUNCED. What is LOCKED is the trade-show debut: IAAPA Expo in Orlando, Florida, November 17–20, 2026 (some outlets list November 16–20 for the broader Expo window). That is where Sega will put the manor on a SHOW FLOOR for buyers who decide whether Gothic VR with an 85-inch door is worth premium arcade CAPEX.
For the wider XR beat, Reawakened is another DATA POINT that LOCATION-BASED entertainment is absorbing consumer headset tech into themed shells — while home platforms chase lighter glasses. Sega is not shipping a Quest exclusive here; it is selling an ATTENDANT-LEANING (or attendant-free) CABINET to operators. The public test is whether the manor looks as loud in a crowded Expo hall as the teaser PROMISES.
