HTC’s VIVE Eagle is on Australian shelves today. techAU reports the display-free AI glasses are selling now for A$799 through VIVE.com, Amazon, and selected Harvey Norman stores, with the VIVE Power Boost magnetic pack also live at A$79.
That closes the clock Metaverse Watcher set on September 7, when HTC opened local pre-orders and named September 14 as the Harvey Norman start date. The U.S. open remains $499; Australia is the higher local RRP with a broader retail footprint.
What ships in the A$799 box
techAU’s day-of brief (Jason Cartwright, September 14) and HTC’s earlier Australian materials line up on the hardware. Frames land in Pantos and Square shapes across colourways including Charcoal Black, Clear Brown, Navy, Brown, Black, and Berry. ZEISS options cover UV400 clear, UV400 sun, and UV380 adaptive glass. Commercially sold Australian units include a Lenswap prescription voucher (listed range −8D to +4D).
Inside the frame: Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, 4GB RAM, 32GB local storage, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with up to 3K video, open-ear stereo speakers, and a four-mic array. techAU clocks weight at about 49 grams with lenses fitted and lists IP54 dust and water resistance. Battery claims in the same brief: roughly 4.5 hours continuous music, over 3 hours of calls, up to 36 hours standby, with magnetic fast charge to about 50% in 10 minutes. The 8-gram Power Boost is billed for up to 80% extra runtime.
Gemini or GPT, and the privacy stack
Through the VIVE Connect app on iOS and Android, wearers pick Google Gemini or OpenAI GPT and can switch. Simpler voice actions stay on-device; heavier prompts are described as de-identified before they hit the chosen model. Live speech translation is listed up to 96 languages on the Pro tier, with camera image-to-text for signs and menus.
HTC’s Australian pitch still centers on recording etiquette: an outward LED that brightens with ambient light while the camera runs, automatic camera disable when the glasses leave the face, a block if the LED is covered, and a bystander “stop filming” voice cancel. Media stays encrypted on-device until the user moves it through Connect. Eligible Australian purchases include two years of VIVE AI Plus at no extra charge, per techAU and HTC’s local launch notes.
For the glasses calendar this week — Snap’s SPECS launch on September 16, Meta Connect on September 23–24 — Australia now has another display-free AI frame with a hard street price and named big-box stock.
