Beta after the OS ships
Apple’s first OS 27 release candidates are out. Siri AI keeps a separate beta designation after iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 hit the public on September 14. That is not a soft launch label on a finished product. It is Apple saying the personalized assistant is still unfinished while the rest of the stack goes GA.
The delay has been public for months. Apple first pitched personal-context Siri as part of Apple Intelligence in 2024, then admitted the work needed more time and slid the overhaul into 2026. Monday is the public debut after developer testing — with the beta tag still attached.
Caps now. Fees later.
Certain Apple Intelligence features that depend on server-side models will carry daily usage limits. Apple specifically lists Siri AI, intelligent photo editing, Image Playground, and Apple Foundation 3 cloud models invoked through Shortcuts. Limits can vary by feature, request complexity, system demand, and policy. Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee later; it has not published price or timing.
That is the commercially sharp sentence in today’s notes. Free-tier caps on the flagship assistant, with a paid unlock still undefined, is a different posture from “unlimited Siri on every Vision Pro.” Treat any day-one demo as subject to those limits until Apple publishes the numbers.
Language, age, and region gates
- English only at launch. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are scheduled for October 2026.
- Not available to users under 13, even on supported hardware.
- Not available in mainland China at launch.
- European Union access varies by platform: withheld on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch; allowed on Mac and Apple Vision Pro.
The EU Vision Pro exception still matters for spatial computing. Headset owners in the EU are in the allowed set while phone and tablet users wait — the same asymmetry we flagged in the September 14 date post. Code spotted in August pointed at a possible capacity waitlist with estimated wait messaging; Apple has not confirmed it will use that queue on day one.
What Vision Pro owners should expect Monday
visionOS 27 itself — curved windows, Visual Intelligence, spatial panoramas, Thórsmörk, the rest of the June feature list — ships September 14. Siri AI arrives as an English beta with usage caps, age and region filters, and a paid expansion still TBA. Apple’s advertised capabilities (cross-app personal context, on-screen actions, a dedicated Siri app for conversation history) remain the pitch; the release notes are now clear that the service is metered and unfinished.
For XR coverage, the useful frame is not “Siri finally ships.” It is that Vision Pro gets the assistant on the same day as the OS, ahead of EU phones, inside a beta envelope that Apple is already preparing to monetize.
