Valve’s Great on Frame page only shows the top shelf. Underneath it sits a quieter tier: Playable. As of September 11–12, 2026, a Steam store search with frame_compatibility=2 returns 23 matches. They do not appear on the Great on Frame marketing page. Their public app metadata still names exactly which compatibility checks failed.
VR.org’s September 11 analysis maps the same Steam Deck–era rating machinery onto Frame: category 3 is Verified (Great on Frame), category 2 is Playable, category 1 is Unsupported. Across the 130 certified titles, almost every app carries the same four pass tokens — functional default controller config, matching glyphs, legible interface text, and performant defaults. Playable is where those tokens start breaking.
Eleven of 23 fail on text input
The dominant failure is not graphics. Eleven titles carry TextInputDoesNotAutomaticallyInvokesKeyboard — Valve’s grammar included. The game puts a text field in front of the player and never asks Steam for the floating on-screen keyboard. On a Deck you can fall back to the touchscreen. On a headset with tracked controllers and no physical keyboard in reach, the cursor just blinks.
VR.org’s breakdown of the rest of the tier is thin and specific: five games fail default controller config, five fail default performance, three miss native resolution, three show the wrong controller glyphs, and two fail legibility. One outlier, Cast n Chill, passes the four standard checks and is held by a unique token, DisplayOutputHasNonblockingIssues.
Deck Verified is not Frame Verified
Sixteen of the 23 hold Valve’s top badge on Steam Deck and a lower one on Frame. That gap is the useful signal. These are not obscure untested builds. RimWorld, Vampire Survivors, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate already cleared a Valve handheld review. They are failing on headset-specific assumptions — keyboard invocation, glyphs, and controller defaults — not on whether the game can run at all.
A live store search on September 12 confirms the same 23-app list VR.org reported, including RimWorld, Vampire Survivors, Geometry Dash, Splintered Fate, Tetris Effect: Connected, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and Cast n Chill. Native VR representation in the tier is sparse: Arca’s Path VR is VR Only and sits here for mismatched controller glyphs on a gaze-driven game; Tetris Effect: Connected is VR Supported and also Playable. One listing, We are Eva, appears in the filter without a full Frame compatibility block in its app record — treat the confirmed set as 22 plus one that needs a retest, as VR.org notes.
The cheapest fix is an API call
None of these Playable ratings are visible on individual store pages yet. RimWorld’s page still leads with its Deck badge and says nothing about Frame. The public surfaces are the search filter and the appinfo tokens. For flatscreen titles chasing the badge, VR.org’s practical point is blunt: Steamworks has offered ISteamUtils::ShowFloatingGamepadTextInput for years. The eleven keyboard failures are not missing a feature. They are missing a call.
That sits beside the other Frame software story this week — 52 of 130 Great on Frame titles recommended for Lepton, Valve’s Android layer. Verified is filling with Android and Proton runtimes. Playable is filling with Deck-class games that never asked the headset for a keyboard. Summer 2026 ends September 22. Price and ship date are still missing. The compatibility ledger is not.
