Steam Frame Verified Hits 143 Titles, Only 63 Are VR

Four days after LAUNCH, Steam’s own filters put a hard NUMBER on Steam Frame’s standalone SHELF — and most of that shelf is FLAT.

According to a MIXED report dated September 18, Steam listed 143 titles as Steam Frame STANDALONE VERIFIED. Only 63 of those carry the VR TAG. The rest are FLATSCREEN games — Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades II, Balatro, Portal 2 — that Frame plays on a VIRTUAL screen.

Valve Promised “Over 100.” The Count Is Already 143.

Valve’s September 14 launch post promised “over 100 games (and GROWING)” with the badge. MIXED’s SNAPSHOT pulls the exact figures from Steam store filters: Verified alone returns 143; Verified plus VR cuts that to 63. The count moves DAILY, so treat September 18 as a snapshot, not a CEILING.

The VR side leans on QUEST favorites. Beat Saber, Gorilla Tag, and Walkabout Mini Golf VR are Verified, as are Red Matter 2, Moss II VR, and GORN 2. Half-Life fans get both releases of the community-made Half-Life 2: VR Mod. Valve’s own 2016 collection The Lab is listed as UNSUPPORTED for standalone play, and Blade & Sorcery gets the same RATING.

A larger group of big names still shows NO badge at all — VRChat, Bonelab, Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR, Into the Radius, and even Half-Life: Alyx, despite Valve shipping standalone Frame SUPPORT in the September 14 update. No badge does not mean FAILURE: Valve’s documentation calls an Unknown title one that “has not completed the COMPATIBILITY review PROCESS.”

Playable Rules Shifted in SteamOS 0.3.0

Only 25 games sit in the PLAYABLE tier, and just ONE of them — Arca’s Path VR — is a VR title. Valve defines Playable as a game that “functions on Frame, but may require MANUAL work from the user.”

Part of that BAR moved on September 17. The SteamOS 0.3.0 release notes, also covered by MIXED on September 18, list a DEVELOPER change: “Change Playable performance criteria to allow ANY resolution (was: 1440p).” On September 18, Valve’s compatibility docs still said VR games below 1440×1440 would appear UNSUPPORTED — two statements that CONTRADICT each other until Valve clarifies which rule applies.

SteamOS 0.3.0 is the headset’s FIRST system update since the September 14 launch. Patch notes also claim “substantially FASTER charging while unit is off / sleeping,” better controller TRACKING while haptics are active, and a fix for “garbled audio” on the microphone. Purchase EMAILS for the US and Europe only start going out September 18, so few buyers can install it yet.

Streaming Still Covers the Rest

None of this LIMITS what Frame can stream. Valve’s docs say the review “only applies for games (both 2D and VR) running LOCALLY on Steam Frame, not games running on a PC streamed to Frame,” and that a rating “will not affect whether your game is AVAILABLE to customers on Frame.”

Valve still positions the $1,059 headset as “designed for STREAMING” and able to handle a buyer’s ENTIRE Steam LIBRARY. Verified titles live on the Great on Frame hub. For a device at that PRICE, 63 standalone VR games is a START — not a finished LIBRARY.
