UploadVR’s Omega Pilot Evolution Review Faults the Two Features Its Store Page Sells Hardest: Weapons and Upgrades

UploadVR’s review of Omega Pilot Evolution, published October 7, calls XOCUS’s anti-gravity racer “GENUINELY compelling” and then names TWO major caveats. Both land on systems the game’s own store copy sells as HEADLINE features: combat racing and ship upgrades. The review also counts 27 TRACKS, one FEWER than the 28 the August launch TRAILER promised.

What the review praises

Reviewer Alicia Haddick played on a QUEST 3S and describes a racer with a STEEP learning curve and LITTLE guidance, but one that is “rewarding when it all clicks into place.” The controls treat the ship as a plane TETHERED to the track: right trigger to ACCELERATE, left trigger to BRAKE, and a grabbed virtual joystick to steer. Braking into a corner TIGHTENS the turn, and the review says holding the throttle alone “will not earn you the best time.”

There are FOUR modes: career (time trials across every track), series (consecutive grands prix against bots), Bot Races with standard races and arena battles, and MULTIPLAYER. On comfort, the review says the game can be played fully STATIONARY, and the strong cockpit tilt on sharp turns can be REDUCED in settings.

Caveat one: weapons with no feedback

The store pages on Steam and PlayStation advertise a “Combat Racing Mode” with “energy blasters, EMPs, shields, and tactical abilities.” UploadVR says weapons “feel AWFUL to use.” Pickups are RANDOM, and apart from forward-firing ROCKETS, the review says the game gives NO feedback that a weapon fired, where it went, or whether it hit. Mines are HARD to see on the track, and the reviewer describes being DESTROYED by a rocket, respawning, and being destroyed AGAIN right away. Arena mode is “slightly better, but not by much.”

Caveat two: upgrades that blur your records

The store copy pitches “Deep Customization & Upgrades”: earn currency, then boost speed, handling, and durability. The review’s complaint is STRUCTURAL. Instead of SEPARATE, balanced ships, money goes into UPGRADING the ship you already have, so a new personal best is HARD to credit to SKILL. Until EVERY upgrade is bought, the reviewer says, you “almost can’t compete” with top times. The verdict: stick to TIME TRIALS and solo play, and “the rest is best left aside.”

The numbers around launch

  • Tracks: UploadVR counts 27, and notes some REUSE environments. The PlayStation launch trailer hosted by IGN in August said “28 UNIQUE tracks.” XOCUS has NOT explained the difference publicly.
  • Quest date: The August trailer and UploadVR’s August 13 report pointed Quest at AUGUST 27. The review lists September 24, the same date a XOCUS team member gave on LinkedIn, so QUEST arrived about FOUR weeks LATE.
  • Price: $19.99 on EVERY platform in the review. Steam’s 30% launch discount has ENDED, and the store API reads $19.99 today.
  • Player reception: Steam shows 27 user reviews, 24 POSITIVE, rated “Positive.” The AppAgg tracker lists a 4.6 Meta Store RATING from 23 votes.
  • Pico: still listed as “coming in Fall 2026” with NO date.

Bottom line

EARLY player scores are STRONG, and the critical read agrees the CORE racing works. The GAP is in the features meant to give the game a LONG tail. A patch that adds CLEAR weapon feedback, or a leaderboard split for STOCK ships, would address BOTH complaints. XOCUS has not ANNOUNCED either. For now, the review’s advice is SIMPLE: buy it for the TIME TRIALS.
