Buffalo Buffalo’s Fresh Tracks VR has been on Steam since September 10, 2026, and it has drawn almost NO attention there. As of Tuesday, October 6, the store page shows just THREE user reviews, all POSITIVE. The same day, UploadVR published a HANDS-ON impression that LIKES the CORE IDEA but flags a design choice that will MATTER to anyone who bought a HEADSET to LOOK around: turn your head away for long enough and the screen goes BLACK.

What It Is
Fresh Tracks is a RHYTHM ROGUELITE on SKIS. The flat ORIGINAL launched on Steam on August 26, 2025 at a $24.99 list price, and it currently sits at “Very Positive” with 68 of 71 user reviews recommending it. It is on SALE today for $12.49. The studio’s game page also links Xbox, PlayStation, and Epic listings for that version.
The VR EDITION is a SEPARATE Steam app, PRICED at $19.99. Steam tags it VR ONLY with tracked controller support, and it is WINDOWS ONLY, while the flat game also runs on LINUX. The listed headsets are Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Windows Mixed Reality, HP Reverb, HTC Vive, and Valve Index. Steam Frame is NOT on that list, and the studio’s page links NO standalone Meta Horizon Store version. Minimum specs ask for an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 1660 or RX 580, and 4 GB of storage. Steam also lists a 28-track soundtrack.
What UploadVR Found
UploadVR’s write-up says the VR version swaps button presses for MOTION: you LEAN left or right and swing a “Rhythmic” sword at TREES and ENEMIES, matching ARROWS that set the swing direction. Jumping, ducking, and lane changes still use the JOYSTICK, though you can also hold the triggers and move your hand to switch LANES. The reviewer called the motion controls RESPONSIVE and said the mix works as both a relaxing ski ride and a WORKOUT.
The COMPLAINTS are SPECIFIC. If you look away from the track for long enough, the view goes black and a prompt asks you to RECENTER. The reviewer found that STRANGE for an IMMERSIVE game. They also hit framerate STUTTER, which they said might be BANDWIDTH on their end, since they played on a Quest 3 over Steam Link from an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT PC. Finally, the default PAUSE input, pressing X and Y together, was UNRESPONSIVE, and because the game has NO in-game control REMAPPING, the fix had to go through SteamVR settings.
Beyond the main runs, UploadVR lists three EXTRA MODES: The Lark, which replays cleared stages for score; Scenic Route, a HAZARD-FREE glide down unlocked tracks; and Practice Run, a safe place to learn the controls.

Why It Matters
PORTS of well-reviewed flat games are a STEADY source of new PC VR releases, but REPUTATION does NOT transfer AUTOMATICALLY. The flat game earned 71 Steam reviews in about a year; the VR edition has THREE after nearly four weeks. That is a SMALL SAMPLE, not a VERDICT, and every one of those reviews is positive. Still, a Windows-only build with no listed standalone Quest version leaves standalone Quest owners OUT unless they STREAM from a PC, which is exactly the setup where UploadVR saw its stutter.
The problems UploadVR described point to CONCRETE FIXES: in-game control remapping, a working pause binding, and either FREEDOM to look around or a clearer reason not to. We found NO announced PATCH addressing them, so those are the items to WATCH. At $19.99, Fresh Tracks VR is priced as a FULL RELEASE, and the reviewer’s own conclusion was that it needs “post-launch polish.”
