Jio AI Glasses Let Wearers Pay by Looking at a UPI Code, but Jio Gives No Price or Date

Reliance Jio used India Mobile Congress 2026 in New Delhi on Friday to unveil Jio AI Glasses, and the headline feature is not a display or a camera spec. It is PAYMENT. The camera glasses can SCAN a UPI QR code, and the wearer completes the transaction with a VOICE command, no phone unlock, no app.

What Jio Actually Showed

According to TelecomTalk and RTV English, the glasses sit inside a broader WEARABLE lineup of camera glasses, audio glasses and earphones. Beyond “Scan & Pay,” Jio listed an AI voice assistant, LIVE translation, AI note-taking during meetings, and live CRICKET commentary. Reports say the devices answer to a “Hello Jio” wake phrase and support multiple INDIAN languages.

The Limits Are Set by UPI, Not Jio

Payments run under UPI Circle, which caps each transaction at ₹5,000 and monthly spending at ₹15,000. Jio said those CAPS come from UPI Circle rules, not from the company. That is a meaningful guardrail: a lost or misused pair of glasses has a HARD ceiling on damage, but it also means glasses-based payment is pitched as a convenience for SMALL purchases, not a wallet replacement.

What Is Still Missing

Jio did NOT announce pricing or availability at the showcase. There is also no published spec sheet for camera resolution, battery life or chipset in either report. Until those land, this is a DEMO of intent rather than a product buyers can plan around.

Why It Matters

Most AI-glasses pitches from Meta, Samsung and Google lead with assistants and cameras. Jio is leading with a LOCAL rail, UPI, that hundreds of millions of Indians already use daily. If pricing lands near mass-market levels, India could become the first market where smart glasses are sold on PAYMENTS and language access rather than on capturing video. That is a DIFFERENT adoption path, and competitors entering India will be measured against it.
