Korea Herald: Meta Taps Naver Map for Hands-Free Walking Nav on Ray-Ban Meta Glasses

META and NAVER are wiring NAVER MAP walking DIRECTIONS into RAY-BAN META and OAKLEY META AI glasses by YEAR-END, according to Korean coverage on September 29, 2026. The PITCH is simple: keep the phone in your pocket while open-ear speakers carry the ROUTE.

The Korea Herald reports that Naver is the first Korean internet company to partner with Meta on artificial intelligence glasses. Digital Today and Seoul Economic Daily match the same SEPTEMBER 29 timeline: Meta said the feature is due within the year, not as a vague roadmap TEASE.

How the Walking Nav Works

Users PAIR the glasses inside the NAVER MAP app, then hear real-time pedestrian GUIDANCE through the frames’ built-in open-ear SPEAKERS. Coverage says the cue list goes beyond turn prompts: ENTRANCES, nearby FACILITIES, and whether a route uses stairs or an escalator. Walkers can also ask a Naver Map-based voice AGENT about nearby places such as cafes or hospitals without glancing at a phone SCREEN.

Naver launched its real-time walking navigation service in JUNE. Digital Today notes ANDROID support ships first, with IOS rolling out in stages. Both companies say they will keep tightening guidance PRECISION ahead of the official glasses launch window.

Why Korea Matters for AI Glasses

Seoul Economic Daily frames the deal as more than a map plug-in. Meta launched Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta in Korea in MAY, expanded Korean-language support, and is racing local everyday SERVICES before rival AI glasses land. Industry voices quoted in that report say COMPETITION is shifting from hardware specs toward maps, search, and shopping ecosystems people already TRUST.

The partnership also extends an existing Meta–Naver advertising link. Korea Herald and Digital Today both note the companies already cooperate through Naver’s ADBOOST (also styled ADVoost) AI advertising stack and Meta’s targeting tools. NAVIGATION pushes that relationship from ads into daily MOBILITY.

Hardware context stays familiar: Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta are built with EssilorLuxottica and already expose Meta AI by voice. This story is not a Muse-agent rehash or a Meta VR Glasses hardware recap — it is a Korea-first MAPS INTEGRATION for camera-equipped AI glasses already in MARKET.

What Is Confirmed — and What Is Not

CONFIRMED across Korean outlets: year-end TARGET, Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, Naver Map walking nav, open-ear audio, entrance/facility/stairs detail, nearby-place voice queries, Android-first then iOS, and Naver as Meta’s first Korean AI-glasses PARTNER. Not confirmed in these reports: an exact ship day, pricing changes, or a global Google Maps–style rollout outside Korea. Seoul Economic Daily also floats possible later Muse cooperation, but Naver officials said nothing beyond maps and advertising is FINALIZED.
