Nothing Plans Two Smart Glasses SKUs, One Camera-Free With ChatGPT on the Camera Pair

Nothing is preparing TWO pairs of smart glasses, according to a fresh leak that landed Wednesday: one WITHOUT a camera, and one WITH a camera plus CHATGPT and TRANSLATION. The claim comes from leaker Roland Quandt on Bluesky, and it was picked up the same day by Android Authority, The Verge, and Notebookcheck. Nothing has NOT CONFIRMED either SKU.

What the leak actually says

Quandt’s post, as quoted by Notebookcheck, is short: Nothing is working on AUDIO-equipped glasses and a SEPARATE camera-equipped pair. Android Authority fleshes that out into a clearer TWO-TIER plan. The first model is CAMERA-FREE. It would support music PLAYBACK, phone CALLS, access to the voice ASSISTANT on a connected phone, and PHOTOCHROMIC lenses that darken outdoors and clear indoors. That audio pair is reportedly coming SOON.

The SECOND model would KEEP those AUDIO features and add a camera, CHATGPT, TRANSLATION, and other unspecified AI functions. Notebookcheck notes that ChatGPT on the frames would fit Nothing’s existing ChatGPT Voice work on its headphones, where wearers already ask questions by voice and hear answers through the buds. Price, battery life, and a firm ship date for the camera SKU were NOT in the leak.

How this sits on Bloomberg’s 2027 plan

The dual-SKU leak is new. The broader plan is not. In late March 2026, Bloomberg reported that London-based Nothing intended to release camera-equipped AI glasses in the FIRST HALF of 2027. TechCrunch’s April 1 relay said the frames would likely include cameras, microphones, and speakers, with AI queries processed through a paired SMARTPHONE and the CLOUD rather than an onboard AR DISPLAY.

That same Bloomberg reporting said CEO Carl Pei had been RESISTANT to smart glasses, then told employees he wanted a MULTI-DEVICE strategy beyond phones and audio. TechCrunch also noted Nothing’s 2025 Series C: $200 MILLION at a $1.3 BILLION valuation. Wednesday’s leak does NOT rewrite that valuation story; it adds a privacy-minded audio tier that Bloomberg’s camera-first sketch did not spell out.

Why a camera-free SKU matters now

Cameras are the FEATURE that makes glasses useful for visual AI, and the FEATURE that turns them into a PRIVACY fight. Android Authority’s write-up frames Nothing’s split as a way to serve buyers who WANT AI glasses WITHOUT a lens pointed at strangers, while reserving capture, ChatGPT, and TRANSLATION for a pricier camera model. That mirrors a move Meta just made: camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio went on SALE October 13 at $349, trading photos and video for LIGHTER frames and LONGER battery claims.

Nothing would not be inventing that trade-off. It would be joining a crowded AUDIO-FIRST lane against Meta, Even Realities, Rokid, and others already shipping or teasing glasses. The Verge’s October 14 note is careful: this is still a RUMOR, and design details from the Quandt post are thin. An earlier report said Nothing wants its DISTINCTIVE transparent aesthetic on face-worn hardware while offloading heavy AI work to the phone and CLOUD—the same architecture Bloomberg described in March.

What is still missing

No PRICE. No battery NUMBERS. No confirmed CHIPSET. No official CONFIRMATION from Nothing. The audio model’s “coming soon” claim, if it holds, would put a camera-free pair ahead of the H1 2027 camera window Bloomberg reported earlier this year. Until Nothing publishes specs, treat Wednesday’s posts as a DIRECTIONAL leak: TWO SKUs, PHOTOCHROMIC lenses on both, CHATGPT and TRANSLATION on the camera tier, and AI that still leans on the PHONE.

For Metaverse Watcher readers, the SIGNAL is strategic more than technical. A mid-tier phone maker with a $1.3 BILLION valuation is treating glasses as a LINE, not a single moonshot—and it is pre-empting the camera backlash by planning an AUDIO-ONLY option before the camera SKU ships. That is the part of the leak that changes the competitive map; everything else WAITS on a press RELEASE.
