Phasmophobia Replaced Its VR Body. Half the Fixes Are Doors.

Kinetic Games did not retune Phasmophobia’s VR body in v0.19.0.0. It replaced the whole character rig. VR.org’s read of the August 25 patch notes finds five of ten VR fixes are doors — and three known issues still carry a VR label.

VR.org dug into Kinetic Games’ Quality of Life Part 2 ship for Phasmophobia and found the useful detail buried under a one-line patch note. The Steam change log for v0.19.0.0 (August 25, 2026) says only that “improvements have been made to the VR character rig.” Kinetic’s August 11 preview used a harder verb: the studio is completely replacing the VR character rig across platforms — movement aligned to your body, arm length matched to the player model, and a visual pass for teammates watching you crouch behind a sofa.

That distinction matters. Three tracked points (headset plus two controllers) still drive inverse kinematics for elbows, shoulders, and spine. When the model’s arms are a fixed length and yours are not, you feel the miss before you see it — a hand that arrives near a door handle instead of on it. Matching the model to your arm length is the correction for that. The visual polish is for the lobby, not for your proprioception.

Half the VR fix list is doors

VR.org counts ten entries under VR Fixes in the release notes. Five are doors:

  • Opening doors was harder than intended.
  • The grab reticle displayed wrong when you reached for one.
  • Hand animations broke on tent doors.
  • Doors shoved open with a camera-mounted tripod triggered multiplayer culling.
  • A ghost opening a door would push you out of its way.

The other five are the old rig showing through: tripods lagging for other players while you carried them, parabolic-mic headphones blocking the view, hands drifting while walking with an item, crouched bodies jittering in multiplayer, and teleport locomotion refusing to work while holding a walkie-talkie. One more sits outside the VR section under Player Fixes — hands moving slower than the camera — which VR.org correctly flags as worse in a headset than on a monitor.

What is still open

Three Known Issues still carry a VR label after the rebuild: head gear can fall off if another player closes a door on you; character profile pictures can come up blank when someone joins; and if Immersive Animations is on when you die, the ragdoll can look distorted. That last one is the one to watch. Immersive Animations drives the character model. The character model is what just got replaced. Kinetic has not said whether the distorted death ragdoll is new with the rig or leftover from before.

There is no separate VR SKU. Steam tags the game VR Supported, not VR Only — one $13.99 buy (currently 30% off the $19.99 list on the live Steam API) covers flat and headset play with tracked controllers. On console, the VR path is PlayStation VR2 on PS5; v0.18.0.0 in July already adjusted the PSVR2 player-list popup. Kinetic’s preview still points VR bug reports at the studio Help Centre rather than Steam threads.

A rig replacement never shows up in a trailer. It shows up the fifth time you reach for a light switch and your hand lands on it. Sources: VR.org analysis; Kinetic Games QoL Part 2 preview; Steam store page (app 739630).
