Lumus adds Zhejiang Crystal-Optech as a geometric-waveguide manufacturer in China, expanding a supply chain already anchored by Quanta and SCHOTT as AR glasses programs push toward volume.
Lumus announced on September 9, 2026 that Chinese precision-optics maker Zhejiang Crystal-Optech will manufacture its reflective (geometric) waveguides under a new production agreement. The deal extends Lumus’s manufacturing footprint into China and puts Crystal-Optech beside Quanta Computer and SCHOTT as active waveguide producers — a capacity story, not another optics teaser.

What Crystal-Optech is adding
Per the PR Newswire release, Crystal-Optech brings high-volume optical component manufacturing — thin-film optics, coating, precision assembly — and claims more than 30 billion serial components shipped across consumer electronics, automotive optics, and AR/VR. Lumus CEO Ari Grobman notes Crystal-Optech is also an investor in Lumus and has collaborated with the company since 2011; the new agreement formalizes production of geometric waveguides at scale in China and Vietnam facilities Crystal-Optech already runs.
Crystal-Optech board member and VP Fenglei Liu framed the pact as pairing Lumus’s waveguide designs with Crystal-Optech’s mass-production line: “As a trusted manufacturing partner, we are proud to take on the role of producing advanced geometric waveguides.”

Why the timing matters
This is a different beat from Lumus’s early-September Quanta licensing expansion covering thinner Z-30 2.0 and A-Lens waveguides. That deal was about next-gen designs Quanta can build. This one is about geographic capacity: more fabs, more FOV SKUs from 20° entry display systems to architectures over 70°, and a public demo of Lumus waveguides at CIOE in Shenzhen, September 9–11, 2026.
Lumus continues to list Meta’s Ray-Ban Display glasses among products using its geometric waveguides, alongside industrial and medical AR systems from Thales, Augmedics, Lenovo ThinkReality, and others. The company’s outdoor-brightness pitch — up to 10× luminance efficiency versus competing waveguide approaches, negligible forward light leakage — is unchanged. What changed is the manufacturing map: Quanta, SCHOTT, and now Crystal-Optech.
The XR read
Consumer AR glasses are stuck on two bottlenecks: optics that stay bright outdoors without melting the battery, and factories that can ship those optics in volume without wrecking yield. Lumus is arguing it already has the first; Crystal-Optech is the bet on the second in the China supply chain. No new FOV numbers, no customer names beyond the existing Lumus portfolio, and no price or ship date for any unnamed glasses program. The news is the factory floor.
