PICO Space Pro Shows Its Real Hardware in Japanese Filings, Fan and All, but Still No Launch Date

PICO Space Pro has now shown its FACE to a second regulator. Japanese certification documents filed under number 202-JWM032 include EXTERNAL photos and teardown images of the ByteDance headset, UploadVR reported on October 11. It is the first time the PHYSICAL device, not a render or an SDK clip, has appeared in public.

What the filings show

The Japanese unit carries model number B3110, the SAME number that appeared on the US FCC grants in September, where the paperwork described a “Mixed Reality Headset” and a separate “Mixed Reality Main Unit” under FCC IDs 2A5NV-AA1Z0 and 2A5NV-B3110. The overall design MATCHES the renders found in a public PICO SDK in June: a rear strap close to Apple’s Solo Knit Band and a visor and forehead pad resembling Samsung Galaxy XR.

One detail DIFFERS. According to UploadVR, the photographed unit’s color scheme and finish do not match the SDK renders and instead resemble Vivo’s Vision headset. That may be a test finish rather than retail styling; the filing does not say.

The teardown images expose the front CAMERA and sensor array, the optical modules, and a central cooling FAN. The documents do NOT give a direct view of the tethered compute puck. A test-setup photo shows a camouflaged headset on a desk with a similarly camouflaged BOX behind it, which fits the puck described in the FCC grants but is not labeled as such.

What PICO has already promised

PICO’s own stated specs remain the ONLY official numbers: micro-OLED panels at 4,000 pixels per inch, a dual-chip design with a self-developed coprocessor for computer vision, and a main processor PICO says delivers TWICE the CPU and GPU performance of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. None of that is verified by the Japanese documents, which cover radio and safety compliance, not performance.

Timing is still the open question

PICO CANCELED its August launch event and moved the headset to Q4 2026. As we reported yesterday, a US reseller listing points to February 2027 at $2,899, which would fall OUTSIDE that window. Clearing a second national regulator is a NECESSARY step toward sale, but it is not a date. The US FCC short-term confidentiality period runs to February 28, 2027, per UploadVR.

The takeaway: Space Pro is REAL hardware moving through certification in at least TWO markets, with a puck-tethered design aimed squarely at Vision Pro and Galaxy XR. Price, date and independent performance data are STILL missing.
