Real VR Fishing’s Free Halloween Update Lands October 13 With Early Mixed Reality Modes and Hand Tracking

Real VR Fishing is getting its HALLOWEEN update on October 13, on Meta QUEST and SteamVR. It’s FREE, and it does more than add SEASONAL fish. It brings EARLY mixed reality modes and CONTROLLER-FREE hand tracking to a game that is now SEVEN years old.

What the Update Adds

According to UploadVR, the update adds FIVE Halloween maps: THREE new locations and TWO returning from past Halloween events. Each map has a NEW fish species. Returning catches include the Zombie Shark and the Haunted Goblin Shark. Last year’s Halloween fish and all 12 fish from the sixth-anniversary event are also coming back.

Players can earn FIVE pumpkin-themed costumes, TWO rod sets, and an exclusive title through PLAY. UploadVR says none of it requires real-world money.

The Bigger Change Is Mixed Reality

The more important part is the PLATFORM work. The update ships EARLY versions of two mixed reality modes. Ice Fishing turns the player’s REAL floor into ICE. MR Fishing brings the game’s LARGER waterways into the room. A HAND-TRACKING mode also lets the game run WITHOUT controllers.

That matches what we’ve seen across Quest this month. Synth Riders and Walkabout Mini Golf have both added hand tracking ahead of Meta’s VR Glasses, which ship in spring 2027. The developer has NOT said whether this work targets that device, so we don’t treat it as confirmed.

Anniversary Content

For the SEVENTH anniversary, the update also adds a FREE Clear Creek Park stage with TWO new fish species. The base game costs $19.99.

What We Still Don’t Know

The announcement doesn’t say how LONG the Halloween maps stay up, whether the MR modes need Quest 3 or also run on Quest 3S, or when the “early” modes will be finished. We’ll update this post once the PATCH NOTES are out on October 13.
