Real VR Fishing marks seven years on the market with a limited Prehistoric Sharks event that starts September 15, 2026 on Meta Quest and Steam. UploadVR reports the free update sends players hunting fossils tied to Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic sites, then unlocking era-themed maps where seven ancient shark species can be caught.

Developer Devs United Games has kept the cozy sim on a long drip of maps, DLC, and seasonal events since the 2019 Quest launch. The studio also said earlier in 2026 that the game had sold more than one million copies across platforms. Prehistoric Sharks continues that cadence: three weekly unlocks, event-only cosmetics, and a permanent quality-of-life feature that is not locked to the anniversary window.
Three weeks, three eras
Per UploadVR’s rundown of the developer materials, the schedule is:
- Week 1 — September 15: Paleozoic
- Week 2 — September 22: Mesozoic
- Week 3 — September 29: Cenozoic
Players check hints on the event map, fish fossils at the real-world locations those hints point to, then unlock that week’s prehistoric map once the fossil quota is met. Maps stay open through the end of the event in early October. Participants also get an event-only fishing rod, hat, boat, and title.

Angler’s Logbook and three new fish
Alongside the limited sharks, every owner gets a personalized Angler’s Logbook that compiles milestones, species caught, and locations visited into a shareable record. UploadVR says three additional modern fish species also arrive with the update, separate from the seven prehistoric sharks.
That mix is familiar for this title: most of the year it is photoreal catch-and-release across recreated coasts and lakes; a few times a year it leans into spectacle events (Spring Shark Frenzy’s Dark Megalodon, the June Dave the Diver collab) without abandoning the base sim loop.
Where to play
Real VR Fishing is $19.99 on the Meta Quest Store and Steam. The Prehistoric Sharks event begins September 15 on both platforms and runs into early October. DLC map packs remain optional; the anniversary event itself is framed as a free update for existing owners.
