The headset’s retail price is still missing. What did land in plain view: a $60 Ergonomics Accessories Kit sold separately, and confirmation that Steam Frame’s controllers take replaceable batteries rather than the sealed packs on Valve Index controllers.
TechPowerUp reported the accidental publish the same day, citing the ShortCircuit upload and noting the video walked through box contents, setup, fit, and a range test before it disappeared. Resell Calendar independently described the same sequence: reviewers reportedly received units in late August under a multi-week embargo, and LTT’s channel posted, then deleted, a full unboxing-style look.
What the leak actually confirmed
Treat circulating clips as embargo noise, not a Valve press kit. The durable facts from TechPowerUp’s write-up are narrow:
- Ergonomics Accessories Kit — $60 as a separate purchase, covering an extra headset strap and controller straps.
- Controllers use replaceable batteries, not Index-style built-in rechargeables. That lines up with Valve’s earlier public materials and Wikipedia’s AA listing for the controllers, now reinforced on camera.
- No headset price in the leaked video. Valve still has not named a dollar figure on the official Steam Frame hardware page.
