Valve still will not say when Steam Frame ships. It did quietly put a Steam VR sale on the calendar for September 14–21, 2026, and that is the firmest public date anyone has attached to the headset’s remaining summer window.
The Shortcut and Notebookcheck both report the same developer invite, circulated by Steam Hardware Updates on X: Valve is asking VR studios to discount titles for a sale that begins September 14 and runs through September 21. The invite was not on Steam’s public 2026 sales calendar when it went out. The email does not mention Steam Frame by name.
Two reads of the same week
One camp thinks Frame lands before the sale so buyers can spend the discounts on a headset they already own. The other thinks Valve waits until the sale ends on the 21st, then uses a clear Steam homepage to name price and day before U.S. summer closes on September 22. Valve has only committed to “summer 2026.” That window ends in three weeks.
Neither read is a Valve announcement. What is on the record is thinner and more useful: regulatory clearance (FCC ID 2AES4-1015, granted July 29 per VR.org), a swelling Great on Frame catalog, accessory listings, and leaked unboxing and setup clips. The sale is one more merchandising beat that lines up with a headset Valve has already certified and stocked, not a substitute for a ship date.
What the sale actually is
It is a software promotion. Developers get a participation ask. Players get a week of VR discounts. Frame owners, if any exist by mid-September, get a cheaper library. Frame waiters get a calendar marker and another week of rumor math. Treat those as three different products, not one reveal.
Price remains the missing number. Coverage still points at a four-figure tag once memory and silicon costs are priced in. Until Valve posts a reservation queue the way it did for Steam Machine, every September date is still inference.
Watch the store page and the sale week. If Frame is real this summer, the next three weeks are the last ones that count.
