Valve’s Steam Frame Summer Window Has Nine Days Left

Valve still has not named a price or a day for Steam Frame. What it did name was a season. Astronomical summer 2026 ends Monday, September 22. As of Sunday, September 13, that leaves nine days on the calendar Valve put in public view.

Hardware Busters put the countdown on the record today: review units are already in the wild, the ShortCircuit first-look video leaked ahead of embargo over the weekend, and the only durable accessory price that video confirmed is a $60 Ergonomics Accessories Kit. The headset SKU is still missing. Sportskeeda’s September 13 update hits the same wall — summer ends September 22, and community chatter around September 14 remains unconfirmed by Valve.

What nine days actually means

Valve’s public language has been “summer 2026” since it moved the window forward from early 2026. Summer ends September 22. That is not a soft PR season; it is a date on the calendar. Hardware Busters notes the hardware is finished enough for reviewer hands-ons, which is the usual late-stage signal. What it does not settle is whether Valve will announce, open reservations, and start shipping inside that window — or whether “summer” becomes an elastic word the moment the equinox arrives.

Metaverse Watcher already covered the ShortCircuit accessory leak separately: replaceable-battery controllers and the $60 kit are on video, the headset price is not. Road to VR’s September 13 write-up adds the physical details circulating from that dump — a microSD slot, a physical IPD lock, and Linus’s read that wireless streaming via Valve’s dedicated dongle felt imperceptible in the clip. Treat the impressions as embargo noise, not a Valve press kit.

The price problem is still the story

Hardware Busters puts the missing number in market context. Valve said it wanted Steam Frame under the $999 Index kit. Then the memory market moved. The Frame carries 16GB of RAM and up to a terabyte of flash. Steam Machine already shipped on June 29 at $1,049 (512GB) and $1,349 (2TB). Retailer and analyst guesses for the Frame have clustered between roughly $899 and $1,199 — none of that is Valve. Until Bellevue publishes a buy box, every figure is a guess.

What already moved, and what did not

The backend has been loud for a week: Steam package revisions on September 3, reservation-language drafts in the client, a growing Great on Frame shelf, and SteamVR 2.17 on the stable channel. Review units shipping to creators is the newest public signal. The two blanks are unchanged: price and date.

Sportskeeda also flags unconfirmed chatter that a Half-Life: Alyx native Frame build may be in motion, and that @HardwareSteam reported prescription lenses may not ship day one. Neither claim is a Valve announcement. Put them in the rumor column until the company says them out loud.

The week ahead

September 14 sits inside the rumor cluster. September 16 is Snap’s SPECS launch event. September 22 is the equinox. Meta Connect opens September 23–24. If Valve intends to keep its own summer promise, the announcement has to land before that conference week swallows the news cycle — or Valve has to explain why “summer” slipped.
