Verizon Named Exclusive U.S. Partner for Snap SPECS 5G Charging Case. Bundle Hits $2,395.

Verizon and SPECS Inc. (Snap’s hardware subsidiary) announced an exclusive U.S. partnership on September 16 for Snap’s consumer AR glasses: a Charging Case with Cellular that puts Verizon 5G behind the headset so SPECS can leave Wi‑Fi without a phone tether. The Connected Case bundle is priced at $2,395—$200 above the base $2,195 glasses—with Connected Wearables data plans from $10/month for Verizon customers and $20/month for everyone else.

The carrier pitch is straightforward. Verizon says years of wearable computing stalled on smartphone tethering and short-range Wi‑Fi; routing 5G through the case is meant to keep translation, navigation, shared AR, and a large private display usable outdoors. SPECS themselves still advertise up to about four hours of mixed-use battery, with the case supplying multiple full recharges—plus cellular when the Connected Case is in the mix.

What the Connected Case unlocks

Verizon’s feature list maps closely to Snap’s consumer demo set: contextual navigation and travel tips, live translation in the line of sight, spatial timers and measurements, gesture-managed calling with Bluetooth audio, a 16‑million‑color virtual display for streaming, and Connected Lenses for shared AR in the same physical space. None of that is new hardware in the temples; the news is who carries the packets in the United States and how the SKU is sold.

9to5Mac notes the cellular case can also be sold separately, and that Snap is opening preorders with a $200 refundable deposit while fall shipping windows stay approximate. Outside the U.S., Orange (France) and EE (UK) are lined up for cellular plans—useful context as SPECS launch markets are the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

Where to buy and try

Verizon says SPECS will land on verizon.com, the My Verizon app, and select stores, with hands-on demos at retail later. Eligible customers can use Verizon’s standard 36‑month device payment plan. Snap separately flagged an early demo experience at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles starting October 1; Verizon store demos follow on a later date.

For Metaverse Watcher readers tracking the glasses race, today’s carrier deal is less about new optics and more about distribution: Snap is selling SPECS as a standalone AR computer, and Verizon is betting a $10–$20/month wearables plan is how those glasses leave the living room. Base SPECS remain $2,195; the Connected Case bundle is $2,395. Exact nationwide retail timing is still “stay tuned,” per Verizon’s release.
